Foundation meeting upcoming on Tuesday, Nov 16 at Noon
Nancy D. - Also, the project to get a van to ICA is completed! $25,000 total from Mtka, ($8000) Hopkins ($3000), 2 Excelsior clubs, ($3000 each) and The District ($10,000). ICA will contribute $17,000 for a brand new van. Nancy and Stacey especially have seen through this project since February. Great work!
Patty S. - she thanked everyone involved, at an especially needed time, with 1 van down and much more need for home delivery. They will eventually equip the interior with shelving and maybe refrigeration.
Jennifer S. - we will no longer have a hot breakfast at our meetings, but work on a coffee and treats alternative.
Nate R. - next Board Meeting on Friday 11/5 at 7:30 AM at ICA offices. Could be an early wake-up for those who celebrated at Charter Night, the night before!
Chris Rosenlund - gave out 2 Paul Harris awards; PH +1 for Patty Acomb and a PH +4 for Ben.
Bob H. - Today, Bob told of the very beginning of the Club, in 1989. Ron Axel, a very active Rotarian from the 140-member Hopkins Noon Club, spun off the formation of a Morning Club. The name initially was the Hopkins-Minnetonka Rotary Club.
Ron gathered about 40 local prospects and encouraged them start this new club. Of those, about 25-30 remained very interested, and slowly the club began to form. A Hopkins Rotarian, Dick Rentz led us through that 1989 year, and all the way to getting our Club Charter in October, 1990. We still have 3 members who were part of that chartered club, Ann, Dale, and Bob.
A fellow Hopkins Rotary club member, Bruce Crawford, continued that leadership as our 2nd President. Dick and Bruce would stay with the morning club for many years. Our new club met in Hopkins for the first several years, and then moved to The Marsh. Our name became The Minnetonka Rotary Club some years later. We’ll continue with this ‘history lesson’ every few weeks.

Program
Today’s program was vocationals by Ben Monnens and Jerald Stiele.
Ben was born in 1981 and graduated from HS in 2000. He attended UMD and found he was interested in both finances and people. He began working with a family friend in banking, and that stuck. He met his wife in banking; they now have 2 young children, and live and school in the Shakopee area. One of his former teachers is now with one of his kids.
Through different banks, Ben has recently formed a new one with Coulee Banks.
They are deposit only now, but soon will add business lending, especially Small Businesses. Ben feels he can be much closer to the customer and respond quickly to their needs.
Ben enjoys basketball, softball, golf and going to their Cumberland cabin with his family.
He is watching his father’s health now, with cancer, but is encouraged with good results. He said
Pete and Chris Rosenlund courted him for Rotary, and is very glad to be here. He will take part in
The Mustache Run soon, in support of Police.

Jerald, MUCH older than Ben, was born in 1974. (You all look young to me!) He showed some early pictures of his sister Julie and parents. They both died too young, but is grateful for them being strict, yet allowing he and Julie to find their way. Jerald went to Brooklyn Park HS and then NDSU in Fargo.
This college was commented on by Alex on Zoom today, but Jerald couldn’t erase the red X.
The rivalry continues, certainly in this club!
He studied kinesiology and finance, and only one of those seemed interesting. He had a great semester in Australia while in school. Jerald was well acquainted with Auto Body work, through his grandfather, father, and 2 uncles. Starting as a floor sweeper, Jerald has risen through the ranks to be a co-owner of the much larger Hopkins Auto Body, as well as The Collision Center in Golden Valley. There is a fun chain with Dale Feste and Tony Newman being part of this auto history in Hopkins. 2020 was a tough year with very little work, but they are back, with a record year last year.
Jerald and Lisa met in college, and have 3 children; Vanessa, Cameron, and Lily. There was a lot of worry when Vanessa was born prematurely and was in the hospital for 100+ days. She is now in college, preparing to be a teacher.
A good day for you, Jerald, with a starting invocation, and a finishing vocational. You said you’re proud to be a Rotarian, and thanks for all the good you do here.
