Meeting Minutes - Bob H.
In Tony’s absence, today’s meeting was ably run by our President-Elect, Alissa.
Guests
Our speakers, Kristen Pederson and Katie Hudson, from TPT public television. The ‘first [second?. Ed.] man’ of our club, Alissa’s hubby, Mikey.
Latisha (sp?) Jones, guest of Lenny
Invocation
Invocation by Mark Marlin. Today is May Day; historically a global worker’s day. It is quite old, from the Roman times, for spring, for warmth and sun. May Day baskets
on your door are a common May 1 celebration.
We pray today to not just be satisfied in our lives, but to seek new direction and growth; that God’s care will guide to us to new levels of understanding. As May 1 leads to warmth and new life, so let us attain that as well.

Announcements
Alissa O. - a thank-you note from We Share Solar, a club foundation recipient.
Bob H. - on Community Service; we’ve been busy lately. The Blood Drive final report was 51 pints in April, and over 50 in October; 100+ pints total. We blew past our goal, and Memorial Blood really wants us back for more. THANK YOU to all
Tree planting and Highway 7 clean up were 1 day apart, with about 10-12 volunteers
at each.
The Resource West Gala is on Friday, May 3 and needs volunteers. A great dinner and party you can attend and enjoy, just for helping. Contact Tracie to sign up: tracie @resource west.org.
Finally, we need a few more volunteers for the Post Office/ICA Food shelf day on Sat, May 11. Look for Mike’s sign-up email.
Mike G. - our Club Foundation received a thank you about Camp RYLA. We also could use 1 or 2 volunteers to hand our $2000 scholarships to Mtka HS and Hopkins HS grads. Mtka is on May 15 at 7:30 PM and Hopkins is on May 20 at 7:00 AM, as in MORNING. Call Mike.
Bill S. - Service above Self event is on May 7; keep inviting and be sure to register all attendees.
Don C. - he mentioned support for local law enforcement from our Club Foundation
Lenny N. - Our Polio Plus contribution will grow by 6X this year, with 2 Matching programs. Let’s lean in hard to maximize our contribution. $2000 isn’t far off, and a $12,000 check would be terrific.

Service Project Survey Results
Alexa R. made a report on our Community Service survey, which was done a few months ago. Some highlights:
We strongly like serving Youth, Bikes for Kids, Blood donations, Warm Hands, Warm Hearts.
There is support for new programs; STRIVE, Open Circle (Seniors). Mentoring, Gardening, and Youth Sports
We like Hands-On services, and working with other clubs for a bigger impact.
Besides the work itself, Community Services values include getting our Rotary presence known, new members, and a community impact.
It’s clear we really want to serve and many say it’s the #1 reason they joined Rotary.
Program
Speakers today are Kristen and Katie from TPT.
Katie is involved with children’s programming, liaising with schools and educators, local outreach and even training teachers on how to use the materials that TPT produces. Gender equity is a major part of TPT
Kristen gave an overview of TPT programming and how MN ties into PBS on a national level. TPT is a premier provider and educator for MN, and the nation. It covers the gamut from public affairs to children to practically unlimited topics, for all ages. TPT is especially strong in S.T.E.M programming, and increasing the number of women in science.
TPT works closely with libraries and with research in more effective programming,
Watch for SKILLSVILLE in 2025, which teaches and explores career paths. It goes further into communication and collaboration in the workplace, problem solving as a group, etc.
Actual scientists and other professionals read the books and serve as teachers in the programming.
TPT has after school and summer programming to keep kids skill sets active all year long. They have learning kits for families who are less able to participate. TPT estimates that 4000 kids and families benefit.
TPT provides life long learning for all ages and stages of adults; even people with Alzheimer’s and dementia are included.
Thank you, Kristen and Katie, for telling us of the incredible volume of work you and TPT do, for all the needs, education, and entertainment you provide. Many people around the country benefit from TPT’s local Minnesota work as well.
