Rotary Minute - Cathy C.
Primarily for our many new members, you (and we all) should know what a large, wonderful group we're all in.
Rotary formed in 1905 with 4 men 'Rotating" around each other's businesses. It quickly chartered into a larger service organization in 1906. There are now over 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members world-wide. 300+ are in Club #9, the 9th Rotary Club, in Mpls, and 900 in one club in Seattle.
Service, Integrity, Good Will, and Peace are among many parts of our Mission.
Announcements
Bob H. - The Blood Drive is on Nov 1st. Sign-up is is doing well. Continue to ask you friends and family. Email Bob at bhersman@comcast.net if you or more can come. Look for a Survey Monkey to sign up for volunteer spots.
Chris Rosenlund - Announced our first club Rotary Major Donor Award; Those who donate $10,000 or more receive a diamond pin. We're very proud to have Char Murphy receive that honor today. Char has contributed consistently since 1988.

Ann W. - A Fundraiser follow-up meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sept 29. Tuttles at 5:00
The Rundquist Scouts presented their fundraising effort to raise money to go to camp. They are selling popcorn and Christmas wreaths. They have sign up forms for both, and I'm sure Mom can help with getting those to you.
Nolan has a goal of raising $5000 himself; Way to Go, Nolan!
Community Service
The sign-up for the Blood Donation drive on November 1 is going well; our club and The Marsh each have about 25 donors signed up, so we have met our goal. Keep asking others as we can max out at about 80.
Bikes for Kids will have a bike drop-off day on Saturday, October 7 at the Hi-Vee grocery stores. We’ll make sure that they are all participating.
In the Community Service area, Vic from Chaska pitched their Chaska Music Fest at the Chaska Ball Park on Saturday, October 7, from Noon to 10:00. Proceeds go to a special needs ball and play area at that park. $50/ticket
Raffle
Ticket belonging to Terry Schneider was drawn, but did not pay out the $53. Maybe next week

Rebecca - for being brand new to the club, and her parents celebrated their Golden 50th Anniversary. That's a big day!

Jennifer S. - same thing as Mike; grateful for club member support from Hopkins Auto Body, Restwell Matress, Feste Auto, the Martin family, and the Sortebergs. Also for finally getting the Restwell Mattress she won LAST year.
Jim M. - still MORE happiness over the HEF block party. And the kids are Out of the House!
Amy S. - also for being an empty-nester, a long-awaited return to the New York Toy Fair, 3rd largest in the world.

Bill S. - for a (very) small (Bill and Jim Martin) Happy Hour at his house after the Fundraiser. Yes, but 2 is a party, right?

Bob H. - for his 46th wedding anniversary, and will be traveling to NC to see Isaac, their 2-year old grandson.
Program
Our speaker, and our good friend, and a former Mtka Rotarian, and Past-President, Nancy Davis. Nancy is now a member of the E Travel Rotary Club. We heard about this just last week.
Nancy is a "Gustie", and retired as a Masters Nurse. She is now heavily involved with a Rotary project in Egypt. Egypt has a massive problem with liver disease and also Hepatitis C. There are parasites in the water, and a vaccination problem led to
the Hep-C outbreak. The E Travel Club is sponsoring a $30,000 project to treat 45 patients ($600/patient) to stop their cancer, and also to train nurses on how to perform the care.
The leadership was the Cairo Elite Rotary Club, and Nancy has worked hard with getting TRF (The Rotary Foundation) matching funding, as well as many other clubs, including ours with a $1000 grant. They are traveling to Egypt in April 2024 to put in 'sweat equity' to help with the work.
This is a great example of how a health problem across the world starts with 1 key person, a few others like Nancy take up the effort, and then our entire club, District, RI does what we can. Rotary International is involved with countless other projects,
including huge matching funding.
Someone, somewhere 40 years ago thought of curing Polio, Rotary took it up, Bill Gates and others joined in, and Polio has (almost) been removed from the earth.
Thank you, Nancy. Many, many thumbs up for the work you're doing (and have done). It's great to see you today. Don't be a stranger!
