February 7th we heard from Special Olympic MN. The Minnetonka Rotary Club has been part of the Polar Plunge for 6 years and raised over $36,880! This year is no different, we will be jumping on March 9! We have 5 incredible corporate sponsors who will be donating $50 to each jumper!
The Polar Plunge is the biggest fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota. All funds raised by Plungers help Special Olympics Minnesota provide year-round training and services to thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state.
We want to raise $10,000 this year alone and we need your help! If you are able please donate to our jumpers or become a corporate sponsor!
Minnetonka Rotarian awarded Rotarian of the Year for leading fundraising efforts for Building Responsible Youth
Rotary member Ann Wengronowitz was recognized by Minnetonka Rotary for helping lead fundraising efforts which helps support Building Responsible Youth in the Minnetonka/Hopkins Area and through out the world.
2021-2022 President Nate Rundquist said “Coming out of the pandemic, it was critical for the club to return to its main fundraiser, the Links & Libations Charity Golf Event. Ann stepped up to the challenge of chairing the committee with no time to spare for preparations. Through her leadership and the efforts of the fundraising committee and club at large, Minnetonka Rotary was able to pull off a successful fundraising event to support charitable missions including building responsible youth.” 2021 Links and Libations raised over $36,000 which went directly to the Minnetonka Rotary Foundation.
An outstanding leader in fundraising and volunteer work, Ann was the perfect candidate for Minnetonka Rotarian of the Year.
Wengronowitz, a charter member, has been a member of the Rotary Club of Minnetonka for 32 years. Ann is a resident of Minnetonka and is Senior Financial Planner and Founding Partner at ConfidereFinancial.
Miss a Meeting - Miss A LOT! On May 18, long-time member, Mark Forsberg, shared his vocational and career. We included a photo of the quote he kept on his desk reminding him of all those "in the arena". Jerald Stiele gave happy buck for his daughter's birthday which also reminds him each year of his Rotary anniversary - here's to 20 years and 20 more! Mark Magney & Mary Catherine Carlson shared about the youth exchange program in Rotary and how Minnetonka Rotary is involved.
Early this spring, the Minnetonka Rotary Foundation invited ICA Food Shelf for an update on the changing needs of the community due to the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic. Recent surveys revealed transportation was a major barrier, especially for those facing health issues, isolation and unemployment. ICA had to pivot operations quickly to provide food resources through home deliveries, resulting in an increase of over 40% in this area alone.
In response to this data, the Minnetonka Rotary Club, the Hopkins Rotary Club, the Lake Minnetonka Excelsior Rotary Club and the Excelsior Rotary Club came together to raise funds for a delivery van. With the addition of a grant from Rotary District 5950, the Rotarians were able to garner $27,000.
As a result, ICA was able to purchase a 2019 Ford Transit T250 van from Bellmobile in Hopkins. The interior of the vehicle will be re-modeled to enhance delivery and the exterior will sport both Rotary and ICA logos.
Many hands and many hours were needed to make this project come to fruition, but as Dan Narr, Executive Director of ICA Food Shelf says, “If you want something done, ask Rotary.”
“With the additional vehicle, we are able to increase our services in the community and hope to get more food into the hands of our neighbors,” explains Narr. “It will also help make frequent deliveries to the ICA Market and Resource Center at Gatewood Elementary School much easier.”
Minnetonka Rotarians have shared a long-standing relationship with the ICA Food Shelf. They have served as a reliable volunteer resource to collect and sort food donations, including food rescue, and assisted shoppers in the “choice” food shelf model at the K-Tel Drive location in Minnetonka. Over the course of the past 22+ years, Minnetonka Rotarians have supported ICA’s annual signature event, Empty Bowls, as a significant financial sponsor.
On May 21st, we had a service opportunity helping collect and organize food from the Postal Food Drive at the ICA Food Shelf. Residents were generous with their donations and kept us busy.

In April, we took our meeting off site for a tour of the Eden Prairie Water Treatment Plant. Our members were so interested and had so many questions we barely made it out of the lobby for the tour. Thank you Eden Prairie - City Government for hosting us and Mark Magney for arranging. We will never water our lawns in the same way again. 💧💦
