Jennifer S. – Highway Seven Cleanup is Saturday, October 8 at 8:30 am. Meet at the Famous Dave’s parking lot. Mark will have safety vests and trash bags.
Jennifer S. – There is a Halloween Event at the Burwell House on October 28 and volunteers are needed.
Alexa R. – Sent an email with photos from our fundraiser. Please share with other golfers and sponsors.
Bill S. – We are looking for another meeting place and talking to Eisenhower about other spaces within the building. There are a few Wednesdays coming up that we won’t be able to meet anywhere at Eisenhower.

Program
Char M. introduced our speaker, Maurice Buchanan. Maurice spoke to our club in 2014. He has 20 years’ experience as a personal trainer. He was captain of the Hopkins Football team and the Homecoming King.
Maurice opened Wurks Gym in 2019. Health and wellness training is a very competitive industry. Technology has made it more competitive. Anyone can get into Health and Wellness training these days.
Wurk gym has a more simplistic approach to fitness. You must look at the evolution of humans. Humans were hunters and gatherers and had to move all the time to find their food. Today we don’t need to use our bodies to find our food. We have no internal motivation to move and get exercise.
Also, humans are built to adapt. The longer you walk, or do any kind of exercise, the less calories you burn. And now we have various technologies that give us instant gratification when we see we have walked 10,000 steps and burned 300 calories. Unfortunately, we are not burning as many calories as the device says. Humans are built to conserve fuel.
At Wurks we focus on different trends in the fitness world. We have a better understanding of the human body and design programs accordingly. At Wurks we have a bare bones approach with moderation and consistency. Also, nutrition is a huge part of training. Stress is another factor we consider. Stress in your life drops your metabolism. The lower the metabolism the less calories you will burn. It’s not always about eating less.
Wurk Gym is located on K-Tel Drive near ICA.

Dear Michael Glover,
Thanks to the many Clubs of our District who made last year’s polio fundraising successful. I hope our Clubs will make similar plans this year to earmark that $1500 for polio eradication from whatever club fundraising is done this year.
In July, a case of vaccine derived polio type 2 was detected in the US, just weeks after the virus was detected in wastewater samples in the UK. Polio’s return to areas that had been unaffected for decades, is a stark reminder that as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. The re-emergence of polio can be explained by many factors, including vaccine hesitancy and a global drop in childhood vaccination rates. But it’s clear today that no matter the location, anyone not vaccinated against polio is at risk. To prevent further cases of paralysis, high vaccination coverage and robust disease surveillance are key. Fully funding the 2022-2026 Global Polio Eradication Initiative is the best way to protect people everywhere into the future, keeping polio from spreading across borders and around the world. Until we eradicate polio worldwide, it will always be just a plane ride away.
As I have been for the last ten years, I remain at your service for speaking and supporting club efforts to engage members around our flagship initiative, global eradication of polio.

Dear Michael,
Join us for a night of dynamic conversation with Honorable Justice Alan Page. This living legend had a remarkable run in the National Football League as an MVP Award Winner with the infamous Purple People Eaters Minnesota Vikings lineup of the 1960’s. He went on to law school at the University of Minnesota and then to an illustrious career in law. In 1993 he was the first African American appointed to the Minnesota Supreme Court. In 2018, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor. This recognition is bestowed upon individuals who have made especially meritorious contribution to the United States.
We have planned an evening of lively socializing, entertainment, and education at the idyllic Old Log Theatre in Excelsior. This historic venue is the longest running theater in the United States. This event is part of Rotary’s ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Our host for the night is Andrew J. Ramirez, a Rotarian from the newly formed MN Pride Rotary Club and District 5950 DEI Action Team Chair.

7:30PM CST - Welcome Remarks from Rotary District 5950 District Governor Lloyd Campbell. Our District Governor Lloyd Campbell will share with you the vision he has for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within Rotary and the monument
8:00PM CST - Veteran trial attorney Doug Schmidt of Schmidt and Salita Law Firm from Excelsior Morning Rotary Club will lead a question-and-answer style discussion with Honorable Justice Alan Page. The topics will represent a broad range of topics, including diversity as it relates to educational outcomes, diversity as it relates to the law and educational inequities, success stories from the Page Educational Foundation and audience submitted questions.
This event is a fundraiser for the Page Educational Foundation. All proceeds will be donated to this exceptional nonprofit organization. The Foundation's goal is to encourage, motivate, and assist Minnesota's students of color in the pursuit of post-secondary education, and, in the process, change the future. The Foundation achieves that goal by doing two things. First, by providing financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education. Second, and most important, by requiring its Page Scholars to work with young children, kindergarten through eighth grade, specifically in the area of education.
This will be a cashless event. All ticket options, meals and drinks must be purchased in advance of the event. Prices include all gratuities and taxes.
Zoom Video Stream: Enjoy this Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion event from the comfort of your home or anywhere else with an internet connection. This event will be simulcast live via Zoom. This option is complimentary. Login details will be provided after registration. Price: Free

Equity Option:Attend the Discussion in-person: For persons interested in attending this program without the financial means, we are reserving 15 complimentary tickets. Limited to the first 15 registrants. We will also include one beverage ticket. This is based on the honor system.
Cocktails and the Discussion:This trendy option is for those who enjoy mingling with a menagerie of like-minded individuals with an open bar, featuring a selection of beers, wines, cocktails, and nonalcoholic beverages. Dinner and the Discussion: This option includes an elegant, seated dinner at the on-site restaurant, Cast and Cru Restaurant.
