Bill S. - had some leftover wine and beer from Thursday and auctioned them off.

Tony N. - announced Urban Boat Builders will be receiving some $$ from our Foundation. They are having an event on Sept 28 for those interested.
Mark Magney - He and Tammy, are having a Pizza Party at their home on Friday, Sept 27. Please reply to him on your attendance, and bring $25/person for the cause.

Foundation Award Checks or Thank yous
Dana Badgerow and Jan Bates were here today to thank us for a $1000 donation. They represent The Assistance League of Mpls/St. Paul. They were founded in 1996 and are now the 96th national member. It is an all-volunteer organization, with 37,250 hours to date.
The list of assistance is quite lengthy, and almost all for youth. It includes food, meals, helping homeless youth, school clothes. They basically help with anything that kids need. They are important in sexual assaults support, clothing, shelter, linens, welcome packages, recognition T-shirts and scholarships. They educate, counsel, and supply grants. 130 grants totaling over $195,000. They are funded mainly by grants like ours.
Their office is at 64th and Penn Ave (south?) Donations of $$ and goods is always welcome. Dale Feste’s wife Cathy is especially active with the League. We can support their annual upcoming fundraiser.
Great Work, Dana, Jan, and Cathy! It fits in exactly with our Rotary Building Responsible Youth.

Bob H. - for huge news in vision technology. Elon Musk received an OK from the FDA for implanted chips trials that is promising for helping the blind see. Human trials are underway. This idea has been talked about forever, and may be on the horizon. ‘Let’s see what happens”
Program
Speaker today; our own Shauna Kieffer’s vocational.
We first met Shauna over 10 years ago when she joined our club. Schooling, family took priority, but now she’s back. Her talk was about her family life and then several stories about her legal work.
Her early years were difficult; she had first hand experience with police crashing into her home. Her brothers had troubles. Her boyfriend died (in high school?) and yet a friend, Kristen, was a huge support for her. She attended Colorado State Univ and met great friends. Travel to India where she met the Dali Lama. She attended St Thomas Law School and clerked for an unnamed judge. Her brother had cancer at that time. Two of her brothers died, one from fentanyl, and the other actually murdered.

Shauna had great stories on every part of her life, especially the legal work. She saw what a difference she could make in people’s lives. Detail is everything in case work, essential facts are left out, which she found, and freed many people. The phrase, “I had no idea that this was the case”, was often from her care and hard work. There is clearly much passion behind the work that Shauna does.
Thank you, Shauna, for sharing your very interesting career, and what happened along the way. Clearly, what you do makes a difference. We’re very glad you made your way back to the club!
