Prayer for a Time of Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced
remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
remember those who must choose between
preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our
children when their schools close
remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money
in the tumult of the economic market
remember those who have no margin at all.
As fear grips our country, let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically
wrap our arms around each other,
let us yet find ways to be the loving
embrace of God to our neighbors. Amen.

(Various - The club donated well over $6,000.00 to the polio campaign, exceeding its goal. Mac H. submitted the funds early to be sure they arrived. This amount is before application of the several matching grants, which will gross up the donation to well into five figures. If we only had the "fundraising-o-meter" ... Ed.)
Rotary Minute - Cathy C.
As I said last Wednesday on Earth Day, the Rotarian dedicated the month of April to saving our Earth with many thought provoking articles in the Rotarian April issue.
I would like to use this last April Rotary Minute to remind you of “Some things you can do”, gleaned from this month’s issue.
Some of these suggestions may seem extreme, and some may seem like an echo out of the past but we are in “rethinking” times so let them sink in before saying “not for me”
Pack your own toiletries when you travel, instead of using and taking the small plastic bottles offered in hotel rooms.
Carry a refillable water bottle and decline a free one offered at meetings
Bring take out containers to restaurants so you can avoid using the plastic foam ones to carry home your leftovers.
Check labels and buy microplastic-free sunscreens and cosmetics. Go to beatthemicrobead.org to find out which ones are. Buy soaps, shampoos, and lotions in bar form instead of plastic bottles.
An average load of laundry containing synthetic fabrics sends more than 6 million plastic fibers down the drain. Buy/wear natural fibers instead – a plus for buying used clothing because clothing releases the most fibers the first few times they are washed.
Recycle plastic packaging such as newspaper bags, shipping envelopes, bubble wrap, air pillows, and zip top bags. Check with your waste pick up company for a drop off site or go to plasticfilmrecycling.org/drop-off. Look for “How2recycle” labels on many products for more guidance.
And, buy products with less or no packaging. Buy your fruit and vegetables loose or bring your own reusable bags. Some stores are not allowing that right now, but always check where you shop.
These are just a few suggestions but let’s do our part.

Program
Speaker; Mitch Reaume from Northern Glass, and also Fight for Something
One of his products is drink ware with Logos, but the main message today to work for things that matter.
He was a pastor, but now all his time is spent with clean water for Haiti, and socially necessary projects.
He looks for creative ways to get companies, and consumers, for donations and profits toward social needs.
He fights for necessary causes; water, kids and foster care, kindness.
He wants companies to donate from their gross, make a real difference.
Some companies claim to give, but not much left at the end.
He credits Rotary with a making a difference; Clean water has big a big priority for many years.
Plastic reduction is high on his task list.
Thank you, Mitch for a necessary viewpoint on where and how we can help.
