Invocation

Invocation by Pete G. - We are all different in our talents, motivations, and personalities. When we were created, God broke the mold. No one is exactly the same as another. We use these differences to mobilize Rotary and work towards a common goal. Bless us and this meeting today as we unify these differences for the good of our community, and the world.

Program

Speaker today; our newest member, Gloria Cazanacli and her Vocational
Gloria is from Bogota, Columbia and came to Minnesota in 2005 at age 27. She is married to Dan, and they have a son, Albert.

Her parents are Gloria and Adolfo, and a sister, Monica, still living in Bogota.
Gloria had to first of all learn to speak English, and has been involved in public service in many areas. The list is a long as your arm.

Fighting domestic violence, community builder, connecting Latinos with the US, housing after the 2008 collapse, Latinos and college, young professionals, Mpls public schools, Hopkins education enrichment.

She is STILL learning English, and holds a Masters in Public Administration

Gloria chose to serve in the public sector, and the list of committees she has served is also long. She has been awarded in many areas, including East Africa education. Gloria now concentrates in the Hopkins, Mtka and Wayzata public schools, with a lot of work in the Hispanic communities.

She finished with a snapshot of the numbers of Hispanics in Twin Cities and Minnesota. They are very hard working, and most had to escape the violence of the Cartels. The transition is difficult, and they can use our support.

Thank you, Gloria, for an amazing story, and your dedication to helping in so many ways.

We're very happy that you are a member of our club.

Letter from Tim Mulcrone (9/6/22)

Dear Michael Glover,

Thanks to the many Clubs of our District who made last year’s polio fundraising successful.  I hope our Clubs will make similar plans this year to earmark that $1500 for polio eradication from whatever club fundraising is done this year.

In July, a case of vaccine derived polio type 2 was detected in the US, just weeks after the virus was detected in wastewater samples in the UK. Polio’s return to areas that had been unaffected for decades, is a stark reminder that as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. The re-emergence of polio can be explained by many factors, including vaccine hesitancy and a global drop in childhood vaccination rates.  But it’s clear today that no matter the location, anyone not vaccinated against polio is at risk. To prevent further cases of paralysis, high vaccination coverage and robust disease surveillance are key. Fully funding the 2022-2026 Global Polio Eradication Initiative is the best way to protect people everywhere into the future, keeping polio from spreading across borders and around the world. Until we eradicate polio worldwide, it will always be just a plane ride away.

As I have been for the last ten years, I remain at your service for speaking and supporting club efforts to engage members around our flagship initiative, global eradication of polio.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Tim Mulcrone
