Program
Speakers - Terri Cannon (Executive Director) and Courtney Chase from LLS
The Minnesota and Dakotas branch of Lymphoma Leukemia Society
L, L and Hodkins are the #1 cause of cancer in children.
Terri: Their effort is in advocacy, research, and support (fundraising, and personal support) LLS has raised 1.3 billion nationally since 1949. There have been 56 new blood treatments in last 3 years, LLS involved with 49 of them.
The practical assistance is emotional support, even more so now with anxiety with COVID and health. They worked with corporate partners , $10 million goal this year
Courtney: Student of the Year program works with cancer survivors, or those in treatment. Honored Heroes learn many real life skills in speaking, workshops, resources. They receive recognition, scholarships, and citizenship awards for their service to LLS.
Courtney told her story of her acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 4.
It was a very bad case, was put into a 14 day coma. She could not walk or talk coming out of that. Very happily, she is now cancer free, for over 10 years.
Courtney was very involved in Honored Heroes, received Citizenship Award 2019.
She remains a strong mentor of the next group coming up.
Thank you to both speakers for all you do, for telling us about LLS.
Courtney was very grateful for today's opportunity, and so are we Rotarians.
