Rotary Minute

Cathy C. - The responsibility of attending club meetings.  Rotary’s policy is to attend 50% of the meetings.  If you miss your own meeting, you should consider attending makeup meetings at other clubs.  Rotary.org has a listing of offsite meetings to make up any missed meetings.

From Cathy C.- Benefits and Responsibilities of Club Membership

Attendance.    Attending club meetings allows members to enjoy their club’s fellowship, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.  Club meeting times vary to accommodate family as well as our professional commitments.  We Minnetonka Rotarians  decided the A.M. works best for our schedules, but clubs do meet morning, noon, and evening.

Rotary policy requires members to attend at least 50 percent of club meetings in each half of the year.  If you miss our own club’s meeting, we should consider expanding our Rotary horizons by attending make-up meetings at other Rotary clubs, locally or around the world.  And you can always expect a warm welcome wherever you go.  Granted COVID 19 had altered that on-site open invitation, but you could be creative and join an on-line meeting of your choice.  Maybe a friend or relative belongs to a club where you could be a guest.

Find meeting places and times in the Official Directory, or through the Club Locator at www.rotary.org.

And remember you can also make up meetings by participating in a club service project or by attending a club board meeting, a Rotaract or Interact club meeting.
You joined Rotary to be involved in something rewarding.  You do have options even in these restrictive times.

Announcements

Chris R. -  gave updates about the meeting held about the “unofficial golf fundraiser”.  September 10th is the date, with 40 golfers thus far.  Contact Bob Hersman if you have any interest.  Details are still being worked out but it appears Boom Island Brewery is the meting spot after the golf event.  Bob said we are on Vince Lombardi time, if you are not 15 minutes early you are LATE!  Lenny was appointed the unofficial treasurer.

Polio Push Updates:

Bob H. - gave final Polio money raised: in 2018-2019 we raised $3672 but in 2019-2020 our club raised $6,302 and after the various matches by Gates and other members our grand total was $33,907

Ron U. - gave an update that their team raised $1200 for Steve Ray’s improv.  Betsy is working on a cooking program as well, updates to follow at a later date.  Ron is also looking into a Magician doing a show.  Looking at an entertainment package to raffle down the road.

From Jennifer S. - Received from Alan Law from Love One Another:  "Thank you and the Minnetonka Rotary Club for your much appreciated donation of hand sanitizer, nutrition bars, and a quilt to Love One Another* today🙏 We’re extremely grateful for your generosity and compassion, and are truly blessed to have your support!"

Also from Steve Aase from Love One Another:

"Dear Jennifer,

FYI, your donation is also tax deductible and a receipt is attached for your use.

In addition, following are some LOA background videos: The Hero Effect-Life Helping People , The Hero Effect-Sandwich Man, and The Hero Effect--Inspiring Volunteers. In addition, The Sandwich Man links to a video featuring MRD history, and scenes from the 2014 documentary The Starfish Throwers. I encourage you to view the videos because they provide unique insights into our work on the streets at night, and the homeless community we serve with your help and support!

I've also attached a couple of written documents that contain more history, program details, and metrics that might be helpful. Feel free to give me a call at 612-803-2287 if you have any questions.

Thanks again for your loyal support!
