Invocation

Lindsay shared a recent conversation she had with her grandmother on her grandmother’s birthday. When her grandmother was young, she was infected with Polio. As terrible as this disease was, it never stopped her grandmother from working hard, raising an amazing family and living an incredible life. Lindsay’s grandmother was pleased and thankful to learn that Lindsay had joined the Rotary and to learn of our efforts to eradicate Polio.

Program

Alyssa introduced Jake LaFerriere with Firefighters for Healing. She met Jake several years ago when her husband Mikey was fundraising for Jakes organization,
Firefighters for Healing. It was through some challenging times in Jake’s life that this organization came to be and she is excited for all of us to hear about what he has done and how he has impacted countless lives.

I, Jennifer St. Clair, will not do this presentation justice as I found myself hanging on Jake’s every word and not taking notes. What I can share is as follows:

Jake grew up wanting to be a firefighter like his father. When he was young, he spent countless days at the firehouse with his father enjoying driving in the back of truck, hanging out at the firehouse, and experiencing the camaraderie that the firefighters shared. It was where Jake wanted to be.

In 2001, he joined that same firehouse and his career begin. On July 3, 2010, Jake’s life changed dramatically. Please click here to learn about Jake’s Story.  Jake is a hero for not only surviving but for also not giving up and finding a purpose to help those who experienced what he had. Jake founded the Firefighters for Healing organization.

Their Mission:
Firefighters For Healing supports burn survivor patients & helps firefighters and first responders pivot after a line of duty injury or medical diagnosis. We care, we listen, we encourage the family as they navigate the first hours, days and months.

Please click on the website,  Firefighters for Healing to learn more about this organization and to read about the opening of Jake’s House in February 2023.
work in an area we all probably didn’t know as much about, until today.
