Invocation
Invocation by Ron Usem; Ron had a few classic lines to start us off, with one some recognized as his best impersonation of Groucho Marx. “ I just shot an elephant in my pajamas; how he got in my pajamas I’ll never know.”
Ron then compared several various and opposite extremes, with the comeback, “When you turn off the lights, we’re all the same”. Good thought to keep in mind in these days.

Announcements
Jennifer S. -the sign-up genius, and today’s clipboard are places to sign up for the needed volunteers for the Sept 8 Fundraiser. Everyone on board!
Cathy C. - make sure your baskets are all set, the donor sheets and values are all filled out. Cathy needs these by August 31, next week’s meeting.
Jerald S. - sell-sell-sell the raffle tickets. Other clubs are a great way to make sales. We’re getting close to Sept 8, and plenty of tickets left to sell. Make sure you turn in all you took, sold or un-sold. Put your name on the stub as the seller, for easier notification of winners.
Alexa R. - she handed out new posters and flyers to give to friends. Again, go to clubs and sell to fellow Rotarians.
Nate R. - The Foundation Board approved 1 grant. Advertise our giving to others. Tune in virtually to the next meeting on Sept 20 at noon. (Check that date, it’s a Saturday) Ask Nate for the Zoom link.
Mike G. - welcome to Lloyd Campbell. Also, the next RI President, Gordon McAnally, will be in town for a meet and greet on Friday, Sept 16 at Noon, The Radisson Blu hotel at the MOA.
Our next Fundraiser meeting is Tuesday August 30 at 5:00 at The Unmapped Brewery. That’s 8 days before the event. Let’s sprint to the finish!

Tony N. - for a trip to Grand Rapids MI to drop off his daughter for college. Wonderful town.
Jim M. - for his renovation at the ‘punch list’ time, and his wife and daughter going to Oregon.
Chris R. - thank you, Jim, for the correct OARegyn not OreGONE (for us Minn e SO tans) His son Alex looked at Gustavus, but happy, actually, that it didn’t work out. Also his father’s 100th birthday today, (if he hadn’t died 43 years ago).
Terry S. - he and Beth celebrating their 59th Anniversary. Congratulations.
Mark Magney - he sold 22 raffle tickets at a recent meeting. Also happy to see Katie Williams along with former exchange student [Freia (?)] and also our current student, Gaia from Milan.
Jerald S. - je and Cameron visited the Air Force Academy, wonderful school, but alas, a rejection notice. Cameron isn’t giving up on the possibility.
Cathy C. - VERY glad to be back from her Covid bout; rarely misses a meeting. (except for the Bahamas).
Nate R. - happy for pre-season Viking tickets from Jerald, and will be selling at Wayzata with C Carr.
Mike G. - he will be in New York, NY with HIS daughter for apartment hunting, or moving?
Pete G. - the elevator in their house works, and his father doing well in assisted living. Lots of visitors
Bob H. - a Twins game with Lenny and Mac, meeting up with Clyde, and Clyde donating a Twins jersey for our fundraiser. Also, Bob off to Brainerd for 5 rounds of golf with 11 others. 24th year in a row.
Program
Our speaker today is our current DG, Lloyd Campbell. He has spent a lot of time in the Pres-Elect and P.E.T.S training. Lloyd prefers that WE mostly talk today about our direction, trends as a club, and how the District can help.
“Who are we now?” Rotary is in transition. The western world half of Rotary has lost some members, while the eastern (India, Asia) is booming. Our District alone lost 150 members last year, and yet our District remains in the top 15 (clubs, not %) and # 2 in the U.S. in giving. Lloyd wants us to focus on membership, the RI Foundation, and our public image.
The District wants to provide value and help us have fun. The incoming Club Presidents will meet monthly, and also travel to Chicago to see the headquarters.
Regarding Minnetonka Rotary, we have lost 20 members in the 10 year trend. Are we meeting the needs of our customers, our members. We need to know who makes up our community, and represent them by our club demographics. Members tend to leave within 5 years, and then stay a long time. We need not only new members, but new ideas. There are several forms of Rotary meetings now, even clubs with NO meetings, just service and projects. Social consciousness and learning leadership are big wants now, and we can provide both.
Several good points were brought up by members, and every one was worth the dollar in Lloyd’s pocket! Thanks, Lloyd for a great visit; YOUR leadership means a lot to us.

Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Tony will take the helm, and we’ll have the full session to go all in for the Fundraiser.
