Cathy C. - Talked about the Youth Exchange. Although we cannot do this now she wants to remind us the importance of the program. These are volunteer families and safety is the most important. Families go through a screening process and a student moves to 3 families a an academic year. The reason for moving them is to make sure the family and student don’t become too tight in which some cases the student would not return home.

Rotary Youth Exchange is run by volunteers which means costs are lower than many other exchange programs.
While it’s useful for students to know their host county’s language, it’s not a requirement of the program.
Rotary’s stringent youth protection policies and district certification program ensure that the safety of students is the highest priority.
Host families are not paid. Every family is screened and goes through a background check. Families are asked to treat students like a member of the family and include them in all their normal activities.
Exchanges are for students between ages 15 and 19.
Long-term exchanges often last a full academic year, and students are required to attend school. They typically live with several host families.
Short term exchanges, which can last from a few days up to three months, are often structured as a camp or a home stay when school is not in season.
There is usually no cost to students for room and board or school fees. Students are typically responsible for their travel costs and for spending money.
In many districts, students can take part in service projects organized by local rotary clubs or by alumni associations called Rotex.
Upon their return, students are invited to stay connected to Rotary as part of a Rotex group. Rotary clubs are encouraged to stay in touch with their past participants, who can also offer advice and guidance to current and prospective exchange students.
Our club has been gifted with many wonderful exchanges over the years.
Our family has hosted 3 over the years and have many and fond memories.

Ron U. - said Stevie Ray is going live shortly and is inquiring about our options with him.
Bob H. - said we are full at 44 golfers with 10 tee times and starting at 2:30 not 3:00. Cathy is working on swag bags but if you have anything for a gift bag please let her know. Pizza and Beer at Boom Island after. Please let us know if you are coming and not golfing as we have to know how many people will be at the beer and pizza afterwards.
Jennifer S. - spoke about Excelsior morning group and their partnership with The Lake Street Council. They are looking for other clubs to be involved. We would partner with businesses downtown to help clean, buy products, repair, etc. Longer term commitment to a specific business. Something for the Foundation to think about.
Chris Carr - gave an update on 2 committee’s. One of our members had to withdraw due to his busy schedule. Patti S. accepted the Foundation board position. Bob F. accepted the position on the International committee.

Happy Bucks
Mark Magney - 42 happy bucks. First one is Pao called yesterday and is doing well; 40 are for their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Taking a road trip to Idaho. Last happy buck is because their daughter is getting married in Idaho.
Chris Carr - has a couple: got brand new glasses from Dr. Bob; growing up they had exchange students and he is still in connection with them after 30 years.
Lenny N. - has 3: Twins ended their 6 game losing streak; shout out to Jerald, took good care of his son Evan’s car and Lenny had no involvement; 3rd buck is for Ryan joining us this morning.
Pete G. - is thanking Ryan for being here.
Nancy D. - is traveling to Massachusetts and to enter the state she has to have a negative COVID test within 72 hours of traveling.
Frank B. - has a happy/sad buck: Timon B(sp?) from Kenya came to the Twin Cities but passed away at the age of 80 this morning.
Bill S. - family coming in from Colorado.
Mike G. - heading out to Boston but is reminding people that if you travel to east coast that there are exceptions for some travel testing.
Terry S. - Have 57 happy bucks, last weekend he had his 57th wedding anniversary
Glen J. - 4 happy bucks. He has had all the grandkids at the cabin.
Program
Ryan is talking about financial literacy and how it pertains to youth. Stresses the importance of early planning and creating financial independence. Planting the building blocks in youth at an early age will have long term benefits.
