>>> went to school undergraduate work, graduate work at Mankato State then went to South Dakota state for his PHD
Was Michigan state lead demographer and last year switched to MN
Works on Rural demographics

Looking /researching Diversity in population

Promoting census work

Why do we need a demographer?

We will not be heard unless we substantiate our existence

We have to prove we are here

Demographers study Births, Deaths and Migration

MN has seen a net State population increase (5.8 million currently)

Individuals 18 years and younger have seen an increase

From 2010-2020 White individuals 18 years old and younger have seen a population decrease

Native Americans have seen a population decrease

1990’s population was 90% white
2020’s population of white people has dropped to 80%

Population of African Americans  went from 7% to 14%
Population of Asian Americans went from 3% to 7%

We have declining fertility rates
Average woman has a 1.7 % fertility rate (How in the heck do you create a .7 individual)

Average woman has fewer than 2 children
Migrating populations have higher fertility rates usually brought from the countries they were traveling from slowing down population decline

Child value to the family was a free labor force and contributing to the bottom line of the family unit by working outside the home

Children have transitioned from a net positive to a net negative due to raising, educating staying in the household longer eating your food.
