RI already supports with $18 million to date in Community Development. RI is a driving force in positive environmental change.
From Cathy C. - April 21, 2021 Rotary Minute
RI’s new Action Plan determined that Rotarians, Rotaractors and alumni prioritize the environment as an important cause globally. RI’s recent extensive evaluation of our current Areas of Focus showed that Rotary already supports a substantial body of environment-related projects. In fact, over the past five years, Rotarians have invested $18 million in global grant funding in support of such projects. And one of the most active area of global grant investment is in Community Economic Development. The Board of Trustees hope to add components that relate to the environment to each area of focus and to specify actions that members can take in global grants for environmental protection.
Rotary International wants to drive our strategic priorities of increasing and expanding our reach. Currently, this RI committee is reviewing ways to give us even more ways to engage with environmental causes. Last October the Trustees appointed a task force to discuss possibilities for furthering our work on environmental sustainability that are in our Area of Focus portfolio. Rotary International wants to be, and trust me, it will be, a driving force in positive worldwide environmental change, and we will have the opportunity to be a part of that.

Lenny N. and Char M. - Our club has just passed the $5000 donation mark for Polio Plus. This will be matched 2:1, meaning a total amount of over $15,000!. What a Club.
Patti S. and Ron U. - our 3rd virtual fund raising event, with Chef Ali, is this Thursday, 4/22.
Mark Marlin - The Mtka Summerfest is BACK, on Saturday, June 26. 3:00 to 10:00
Nancy D. - Foundation meeting on Tuesday, 4/27. All are welcome to tune in.
The ICA Van project is nearing completion. with $9,000 in donations from our club,
Hopkins, Lake Mtka, and Excelsior clubs. District match still to come.
Jennifer S. - Free Bikes for Kids delivery is Thursday, 5/20 from 5:30 to 7:00 at North Junior High. She is asking for a $100 donation from the club, for some expenses.
Chris Carr - Board of Directors meeting this Friday, 4/23.
Patti S. - Pop-Up deliveries of food from ICA will happen every Friday, from 9:00 to Noon, at Gethsemane Church parking lot. Sign up for a volunteer slot.
Mark Magney; Highway 7 Clean Up will be Saturday, May 15. Meet at Famous Dave's
at 8:30, for about 2 hours.
Guests - David Senior and Becky McNatlin were on hand from Relate Counseling, to
accept and thank us for a Club grant. Their staff of 100 serves about 2000 clients and families each month. Many more are on a waiting list. They provide counseling, help with medical insurance, and in the schools. They will continue into the summer and fall with students, on new programs for diversity inclusion, mental health, and domestic violence. A virtual blue ribbon to you both, as What You Do Makes a Difference!

Sara E. - for a fun night at Tuttle's with a REAL get-together of 16 Rotarians. She also announced she (they) are expecting their 2nd child in November. Congrats from all.
Floriane N. - her best friend is dealing with cancer, in India for treatment. She will be with her, delaying her return to MN. Our prayers are with you and your friend, Floriane.

Speaker; Kerry McCauley, introduced by Allysa, her fellow sky-diver.
Kerry told us his story of an amazing career choice as a Ferry Pilot. He has done many other things as well, from winter survival camping, 20,000 sky dives, and a pilot of almost any kind of plane. He ended by saying it may be the most adventurous job on the planet.
A Ferry Pilot shuttles aircraft around the world, and usually very long flights. He started in 1990, with a delivery to Portugal, the first of 30 years.
The perils Kerry talked about were the expanses of 1700 miles over open oceans, flying solo, fuel concerns, navigation, fatigue, night and weather changes, and especially being past the 'point of no return', where turning back is not an option.
He flew before GPS, only using a compass. One particularly harrowing flight was where he had tailwinds, and took on an especially long expanse of water. He discovered the fuel tank wasn't transferring, and he had to blow into a tube for 10 hours. Flights can take up to two weeks, at 14 hrs/day.
He flies in a survival suit, with a flashlight, a beacon, life raft and a radio. If beyond helicopter range, it could be a long wait, in 30 foot waves, waiting for a ship.
He has 'buzzed' some amazing sights, including the Pyramids of Egypt.
