Rotary Minute
Cathy C. - In a letter from our new RI President, Shekhar Mehta, we are called to serve to save lives. By growing, we will do more. Our impact and our reach will increase. Rotary is in over 200 countries, but our membership has been stagnant for 20 years. We are asked, and by our own membership
committee, for each of us to bring on to our club. Engagement is important

Program
Speaker today is Phil Magney, Mark’s ‘little brother’.
Phil is an automotive expert, with VSI labs. He is all about ADAS, or Automated Driver Assisted Systems. Many newer cars today have assistance, with cruise and lane control and lane but still require a human driver. True Robotic Vehicles are coming, but are a ways off yet. Google, Apple and others are working on trucks, boats and shuttles now. There is a lot of technology needed to get the data just right; data is the new oil of transportation. It’s all about sensors; cameras, radar, ultrasonic, HD maps. Robot Taxis will need over 20 sensors.
There are some current hurdles with lane control and phantom braking, and as Jerald pointed out, repairs will be quite complex.
Phil’s wish list includes common data, smart intersections, work zone updates, and perfect lane markings.
Thank you, Phil, for an enlightening talk on the future.
