Cathy Carlson presented a Rotary minute, in which she noted that the goal of membership in our Rotary club is professional diversity.
Announcements
Ron U. - asks for anyone who owned a donated phone with a yellow sailboat on it to contact him. The passcode is needed.
Mark Magney - Highway 7 Cleanup is Oct. 10.
ICA Silent Auction fundraiser runs through October 8.
Chris Rosenlund - Rotary International Foundation donations are again being sought. Chris Rosenlund will send out an email.

Char M. - $2 – her granddaughter was married in a beautiful wedding. Moline apartment dogs had quite a splash in the building swimming pool on the last day before the pool closed for the year.

Nancy D. - $1 – for the ability (after Covid testing) for Nancy and her sister to visit their mother in her nursing home. The visits are so important to their mother’s mental health.

Mac H. - $1 – for Char Murphy’s invocation this morning. He also noted that human blood pressure goes down when they watch happy dogs.

Speakers Ben M. and Jacob M. gave vocationals.
Ben Monnens: age 37. He’s had a banking career since 2004. He starts a new job with Coulee Bank out of LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Monday. The bank wants to open a bank on the west side of the Twin Cities, and he’s helping them do so. He’s been married 10 years, and has 2 children, ages 6 and 4. Ben loves the outdoors, and recently purchased a cabin.
Jacob Millner: age 36. He’s a Chicago native. Jacob moved here in 2006 to attend graduate school at the university of Minnesota. He’s been a former president of our club, and is now assistant district governor for Rotary for our region. He’s been a lobbyists for auto dealers and dentists. He’s now with the American Jewish Committee, in management. He has 2 children – twins – age 7. He misses travel because he likes to see new places and experience new things. He loves staying in hotels.

CLASSIFICATIONS - Did you wonder why, upon joining, that Rotary was even interested in what your profession is? Good question.
Rotary historically has had a Classification Principle whereby each member is assigned a classification based on his or her business or profession. This system ensures that a club’s membership reflects the business and professional composition of its community. The number of members holding a particular classification has been generally limited according to the size of the club. Originally, one member per classification. Then if a second person wanted to join and had the same classification of a current member, the first member would be asked to approve that applicant. That faded out many years ago. The goal was and is professional diversity, which enlivens the club’s social atmosphere and provides a rich resource of occupational expertise to carry out service projects and provide club leadership.
Our club follows a process to expand that classification limit even further by adding the professional designation of a classification to include one’s specialty, i.e. Real Estate – Commercial or Residential, or Law – Estate Planning or Transportation or General Business. You get the idea.

Highway 7 Cleanup - Mark Magney
We have scheduled our semi-annual Highway 7 cleanup project for Saturday October 10, starting at 8:30 am.
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic MNDOT has issued the attached guidelines for our work. In addition to these guidelines we would like to split our efforts up in to two time slots each consisting of 10 or less individuals. The time slots will be 8:30 am and 8:45 am.
If you are able to help with this community service project please respond to this email with the time slot you would prefer. The first nine people who sign up for a time slot will be assigned to that spot. I will send an email with the time slot assignments after everything is set up.
I will provide safety vests and trash bags. You will need to provide our own gloves.

Hi Nancy and Others at Minnetonka Rotary Foundation,
In behalf of the Rotary Clubs of Rogers and Brooklyn Park, I wish to thank you again for the support provided to the Nicaragua Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) project. Your Foundation's funds have been used to procure the following:
o Face Shields
o Vinyl Exam gloves
o Rubber service gloves
o Vinyl body gowns.
The PPE supplies also included face masks that were made by volunteers and donated.
The photo image shows a Rotary volunteer packing the PPE items for transport to Nicaragua in November.
We are working with the Rotary Club of Jinotepe, Nicaragua on this project.
