Invocation

Invocation by Bob Fink:

Over the years I have collected a number of vignettes some for laughs and others for words to live by.

Examples of laughs are:

Always borrow from pessimists, they don’t expect to get paid back.
Those who think they know everything are disturbing those of us who do.

For today I have selected the following:

Go into the world and do well. But, more importantly, go into the world and do good.

Our days are happier when we give a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

A person’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others.

In closing, Chris Offer a Rotary Governor for district 5040 offers:
With our friends beside us and no person below us
With the bonds of Rotary between us and our worries behind us
With our goals before us and no task beyond us
With a thrust of knowledge and a desire for a polio free world
We are thankful for our Rotary friends and our time shared together.

Words of advice from John Wesley October 6, 1774 regarding voting
  1. Vote for the person you judge most worthy
  2.  Speak no evil of the person you vote against.
  3. Take care that your spirit is not sharpened against those who voted on the other side.

Cathy C. -  The Rotary Foundation Areas of Focus Changes

The Rotary Foundation recently made changes to Rotary’s areas of focus. Some of the goals of the areas have changed, and activities that relate to the environment have been included for most areas. The names of three of the six areas have been adjusted to better reflect the types of projects that Rotary members are carrying out.

The areas of focus now are:

· Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

· Water, sanitation and hygiene

· Community economic development

As well as ones we have fostered previously

· Disease prevention and treatment

· Maternal and child health

· Basic education and literacy

These collectively are huge areas to support individually. But we have come this far and we can continue to make a difference.

2. From Chris Carr - City of Lakes Rotary Fundraiser:

Dear Rotarians!

I am a member of the City of Lakes Rotary Club in Minneapolis. This Thanksgiving season I am trying something new: I am baking and selling my homemade Fall Fruit Nut Pies! I will donate the profits to CES or our Rotary District (you choose where I donate your money!). I shared this idea with Tom Gump (who already pre-ordered 1 pie:) and he encouraged me to share this fundraising activity with you. Maybe some of your members would like to buy some pies or you could auction one of the pies at your upcoming meeting? I am open to all ideas!
Thank you so much for your support in advance!

Here are the details if you'd like to forward to your members:

Anna Prisacari from the City of Lakes Rotary Club is baking and selling her Fall Fruit Nut Pies. The profits will be donated to CES Food Shelf or our Rotary District (you choose). To help Anna plan the baking, she offers 3 days when you can come and pick up the pie from her house near 394 & Hopkins Crossroads (she lives in Minnetonka). To protect each other Anna will do the curbside pickup - she will deliver your pie to your car. To order your pie, please email Anna by October 31st and specify which day works best for you to pick up the pie and how many pies you'd like to order. Each pie is $25. If you have any food allergies and need to know the ingredients, please contact Anna. Anna's email is annaprisacari@gmail.com

Pickup Days
Saturday, November 14th (10am-12pm) (6 pies left)
Friday, November 20th (4-6pm) (15 pies left)
Tuesday, November 24th (9am-11am) (20 pies left)

See the attached picture of the pie Anna baked for her friends last week!

Your Rotarian friend,
Anna
