Program
Lisa Myhre and Reid Oertli, from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)
LLS is the largest support organization for blood cancers in the country. Started by a family in NY, it supports families in several ways; Education, Advocacy, Financial, and through Research. They raised $19 million just in 2022 for all this support.
The U of M is a strong player in L and L; there are many new and effective treatments being used more and more.
40% of children’s cancers are blood cancers.
Reid is a junior at HHS and was named the Student Visionary of the Year. These high schoolers get a 7-week training in all aspects of fund raising. Reid did not deal with cancer himself, , but formed a team of 15 friends and together they raised $75,000 to support LLS. Lisa is very happy to see that result, and especially the generosity and confidence in these young people.
Light the Night, their annual fundraiser is upcoming in the fall
Thank you, Lisa and Reid, for a great program today, and the wonderful work you are all doing.
