Program
Our speaker for the Oct. 30 meeting was Frank Bures, who is a very interesting and remarkable freelance writer. Frank and his family live in Minneapolis, but he has travelled to just about every continent during his career, and his lived in a number of foreign nations at different times. He has written about a very broad variety of different topics, and has interviewed people ranging from common and ordinary to very famous and prominent. In addition, Frank has written essays that focus on the important things in life, such as being very open-minded and kind-hearted, and taking an interest in other cultures and lifestyles. For years, Frank has published various articles and essays in Rotary Magazine and many other publications. He is also the author of a number of different books.
During his talk, Frank read from some of the different articles that he has written. He also talked about the challenges of being a freelance author, ranging from emotional to financial. But he has enjoyed his long and productive career. Frank had copies of two of his well-known books with him. "The Shape of the World - Essays on Travel, Culture and Belief from Rotary Magazine" is a wonderful compilation of the very inspirational writings that he has done for Rotary Magazine over the years. "Under Purple Skies - The Minneapolis Anthology" is a terrific gathering of stories that Frank put together, from a wide variety of different Minneapolis authors ranging from amateur to professional. These works highlight the broad range of emotions that come with living in a diverse American city. It was very interesting for us members to hear his talk.
