Cathy C. -What’s your motivation for being a Rotarian? Your Time and Energy will yield rich rewards. Club needs your ideas, and your leadership. Active members consult with like-minded people. Attending meetings, events, make-ups at other clubs is part of Rotary. You joined for a reason, make it ring true.

Announcements

Jennifer S. - Volunteers needed for 2 upcoming events
1. Resource West backpacks project for Sept 9 (need 4) and Sept 10 (need 5) 4:30 to 6:30 shifts
2. Excelsior Big Island and Back; Saturday, Aug 7. Need 3 more for 10-12:00 or 12-2:00 shifts.

Ann W. - Fundraiser Meeting TODAY July 28 at 5:30 at Tuttle's. Everyone welcome. All hands on deck!
Alissa O. - A gathering at ‘Ann’s place’ on Thurs Aug 19. 5:00 to 8:00. Directions to come. Also, she is planning new Club shirts, needs ideas, and also we have a few old ones for $12.

Bob H. - We are at 58 golfers so far, with 72 as full sheet, and 80 as a REALLY full sheet. Please contact your sponsors to make sure we have room for them to golf.

Chris Carr - The Club Foundation met to start the year, and we have $49,043 to give out this year. He also invites us to a Grand Opening on Thurs July 29 4-6:00. 825 Wayzata Blvd.

Jerald S. - we have sold 60 out of 3000 raffle tickets so far. Let’s get that major funding rolling.

Raffle

Won by Grandpa Bob (Bob H.) , AND drew the Joker. Happy to get a $2 bill.

Happy Bucks

Bob H. - for winning the raffle, and a ‘grateful’ buck, that despite his sister’s funeral, many came from afar, and long-time family absences were brought together.

Nate R. - for an attempted Board Mtg, but a lock-out. (I think) the meeting did take place. (Edit: the meeting did take place. Ed.)

Terry S. - for completed home repairs; everything is working.

Ben M. - after 2 weeks away, his wife is returning to MN. All the family happy about that.

Ann W. - she is going to Boston for a face-to face meeting with colleagues.

Jerald S. - A pageant of Hope upcoming for girls and young women with disabilities. Also a nod back and forth with Pete about some stormy weather today.

Pete G. - ‘to soon to say’. He says. Also happy about a patent for a dog care (?) device he’ s working on.

Chris Carr - NOT done with remodeling, but getting close. Also, refer to Open House on Thursday, July 29.

Ron U. - going fishing (today?) on the Mississippi, weather permitting.

Cathy C. - sad that Char not here today, and hoping for good weather for an event today.

Program

Speaker today is Lisa Jacobson with DinoMights. Lisa is also a Rotarian in the Brooklyn Center Club, and running for Mayor of BC. Good Luck with that effort.
DinoMights helps inner city youth learn to skate and play hockey. Hockey is the hook, but mentoring, relationships, and better HS graduation is the goal. 175 kids play hockey, and 500 Learn to Skate.

Typically, only 53% of these urban children graduate, but Lisa says they are now at or near 100%. Academics and the whole person greatly improve through DinoMights. “You have Strength’ is a motto. They are very tied in to other hockey programs, right up to the Minnesota Wild. The kids learn skills and confidence in being around these other adults. They have both a Mpls and St. Paul program.

Many go on to post HS programs, and they bring that success back to work with newer kids.
