Invocation
Patty Acomb - Today is National Sleepy Head Day which is an annual celebration in Finland. The tradition traces back to the Middle Ages when the belief was that the person in the household who slept late on this day would be lazy and non-productive for the rest of the year. In the old days, the last person sleeping in the house could be woken up by using water, either being thrown into the lake or having water thrown on them! Thankfully we all got up early to be at Rotary so we don’t need to worry about getting doused!
Here is a morning prayer in honor of National Sleepy Head Day!
Dear Lord, clear my sleepy head and fill my mind with expectation.
Awaken my slow boy and energize my heart with love in action.
Ignite my spirit and set this day on fire with promise.
Make the ordinary extraordinary.
Engage me, show me your kingdom alive.
Help me to see that every awakening moment is full of promise because of you. -
Amen
