Rotary Minute

Cathy’s Rotary Minute highlighted the International Convention in Houston, TX in 2022 June 4-8th

From Cathy C. - Start Planning – Rotary’s 2022 International Convention is to be held in Houston!

The event brings more than 20,000 participants from around the world and deliver $30 million in local economic impact for the city’s hotels, restaurants, retailers and attractions.

During a joint news conference held at the Geo. R. Brown Convention Center 4 weeks ago Rotary and First Corp. reps announced that yes they expect more than 20,000 service-minded people from around the world to gather for Rotary’s 113th annual convention.  Actually this is the 3rd time Houston has hosted our international convention – 50 years ago in 1972, and the 5th convention in 1914.
I do not doubt that the convention speakers will be as impressive as previous years, such as Justin Trudeau, Jane Goodall, Ashton Kutcher to mention a few.

With the safety and well being of participants and the wider community a top priority, Rotary’s previous two conventions were held virtually due to the global pandemic.  John Smarge, chair of Rotary’s Internation Convention Committee said “this convention will also have a virtual component to make the event accessible to all members. And as we continue our planning, we will work closely with global and national health authorities to ensure that our in-person event follows the most current health and safety guidelines.

Maybe it’s time to start thinking about a trip down south next June, because a Rotary International Convention should really be on your bucket list.
