May 26 "Show Your Colors" Flag Project for Memorial Day
May 27 Board of Directors, 11:45 a.m. at the Beaumont Club

Volunteer to "Show Your Colors"!

What are you doing for Memorial Day? Start your day on Monday, May 26 with a great patriotic feeling when you help post our USA flags around Beaumont.

Pat Anderson has started recruiting volunteers and we need you to say "Yes!" when asked, or phone him at 782-4057 and let him know to count on you.

Thank You, Pit Crew!
It was a beautiful weekend of weather and the largest Soap Box Derby!  The Spindletop Club held the annual event for the 12th year and our club members assisted in a small way by serving breakfast and lunch to the workers at the event.

Thank you to John Worthington, Chairman, who organized and did all the preparation for our project.  Also a huge thanks is extended to Gerald Condon, Collision & Classics, for the use of his classy grill and equipment and his grillmaster, Carlos Vela, for handling the actual cooking for us.

Volunteers were: Fred Kristiansen, Chuck Mason, Craig Lively, Steve Gilbert, Pat Anderson, Alan Sampson and Michael Perez.

FEED THE POLIO PIG!
You heard the recent devastating news that Polio has spread and cases have been confirmed in 10 countries.  We can't allow this dreaded disease to take control again.  Rotary Clubs around the globe are stepping up to help with additional financial resources.

One small way you can help is to donate your change and coins to the Polio Pig which will be "visiting" every meeting.  Dollar bills and your checks to The Rotary Foundation are accepted too!

West Brook Interact Club Recognized
At the recent District Conference, the West Book Interact Club was honored with the presentation of the 2013-14 Presidential Citation. Rotarian Kristi Fueslier, Director of Student Activities at West Brook, accepted the honor on behalf of the student club. Pictured with Kristi is Cindy Cherry who assisted Randy Fluke with sponsorship duties of the West Brook Interact Club this year.

PROGRAM REVIEW

"Update on Progress on LNG Exporting"

Bill Davis
Project Executive
Golden Pass Products, LLC
by Rotarian John Neely

Rotary Speaker today was Bill Davis, Project Executive for Golden Pass Products, LLC.  Bill was introduced by Dr. Paul Szuch, President of LIT.

Some of us remember that Bill spoke to Rotary about the economic blessing our region has and will receive from
the Golden Pass facility in Sabine Pass.  In years past, the primary energy sources were wood, followed by biomass, coal & oil, followed by gas, hydro, and then nuclear. There continued to be much talk about "renewables" although it is projected that even in 2040, renewable energy will make up only 10% of sources.

The demanded fuels (by sector):
- oil
- gas
- coal
- nuclear
- biomass
- renewables

Since its start in Sabine Pass, the gas industry has found effective ways to extract our own gas-sources via horizontal drilling and shale. As the result of this relatively newer method of extraction, our nation is sitting on a gas supply that could last 100 years.

Golden Pass has now entered into the "export" business.
Exporting LNG (liquefied natural gas) will result in U.S. economic gains of $ 31 billion as well as the equivalent of 45,000 jobs, including 3,800 permanent.

The sources of growing energy demand:
- transportation
- power-generation
- industrial
- residential & commercial

The steps of the liquefaction process:
1 - natural gas goes into an inlet
2 - natural gas is treated
3 - natural gas is pre-cooled
4 - natural gas is cooled
5 - natural gas is stored & loaded

The transportation/mobilization process (getting the gas to the consumer):
- extraction of gas
- changing gas to liquid
(a chilly -260 degrees which makes the entire process cost-effective)
- transport
- receiving and regasification
- deliver to consumer

Our sources for gas have doubled since 2000 and it is predicted that the demand will triple by 2040!
