The purpose of The Arc of Beaumont is to support adults, children and families living with individuals who have intellectually and developmental disabilities to grow, learn and live within our community. The Arc believes that these individuals belong in the community “and have fundamental moral, civil, and constitutional rights to be fully included and actively participate in all aspects of society as an equal.” The group of individuals from The Arc attending the Rotary meeting gave members a chance to meet them and learn of their work in the community. They are ambassadors for the mission of The Arc.

The Beaumont Arc has a staff of 4 very busy individuals: Executive Director, Advocacy, Programs and Program assistant. The non-profit organization began here in 2005 and is a part of the Arc of Texas and the United States. Children, adults and families receive services.

Events are held on a regular basis in several different groups: Adult Social Club, Young Adults Social Club, Self-Advocacy and Children and Family Services. Events include Book Club, Art Classes, Exercise, Dancing, Bowling, Game Nights, Date Nights, Talent Show, Living and Learning for adults and young adults. For Children (ages 4-12) and Family Services there is Parents’ Night Out, Teen Night, Children’s Summer Camp, Mom’s Lunch Support Club, Advocacy Opportunities, Baby Basket Program, Family fun Days, Parent Advocacy and Parent Education. For some of these programs the community is invited to attend and Sarah guarantees that individuals will enjoy the event and learn.

The SETX Self-Advocacy Group has adult leadership and works to inform representatives in legislation through a monthly meeting and by email and phone calls. They travel to Austin when legislation is pending that involves special groups and they work to involve the community on issues concerning those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

You can volunteer for staff events such as dances, game night, buddy week and date night. Applications for volunteering are available online.

The Arc receives some funding through the following events: The Arc Style Show, The Beaumont Buddy Week, Arc Bowling Sponsors and BBQ Bash.
