Indeed, Entergy powers life as we know it! And, for the most part, we give it no thought at all. You plug a device into the outlet and it works, and you turn a switch and lights turn on. Thankfully, there are those who think about it most of the time. They are the professionals who respond to our calls when something interrupts the flow of power and those who devise the plans to maintain an adequate supply of electrical power for our future needs.
Two of those professionals will speak to the club on Wednesday. Dean Adams, Grid Manager. will talk about hurricane recovery. Sam Bethea, Customer Service Manager, will speak about our new meters that will soon be installed and the benefits they will provide.

Don't miss this opportunity! In celebration of International Women's Day 2018, the Rotary Club of Beaumont will welcome Dr. Sylvia Whitlock to Beaumont to speak at the March 7, 2018 meeting. Sylvia travels extensively, sharing her story of the first Rotary Club in the world to open its membership to women, even before the International organization had officially approved women in the male-only organization. Not only were the women welcomed, Sylvia became the first woman to hold the office of President within her club. Come hear her story - from her!
Members will be asked to make a reservation for this meeting as we are expecting a large number of visitors and Rotarians from other clubs. We need reservations in order to have adequate seating and meals prepared. The Central Interact Book Drive was a success and culminated tonight, February 19, with Literacy Night at Mae Jones-Clark School. Rotarians donated a whopping 349 books to the Interact Club!

Do you know of a young lady who will take part in the 2018 Neches River Festival as a princess?
If your daughter or granddaughter is a student at a Beaumont school, graduating in May, and planning to take part in the annual NRF festivities, perhaps she could be sponsored* by the Rotary Club of Beaumont.
Please submit the young lady's name by calling the Rotary Office at 842-1913. The Board of Directors will consider all those proposed, but we need to hear from you by Noon on Tuesday, February 20.

"Rotary Has Heart"

There were bags, bags and more bags as Rotarians got to work assembling the items into Rotary zippered bags! The women and children at Casa Belen in Nicaragua will benefit greatly by having the resources provided by our layette bags.
In service to others, once the layette assembly was completed, members got busy helping four local non-profits which needed a hand with some tasks for their agency. Service Day chair, Deborah Drago wrote this synopsis of the Club's accomplishments in Service Above Self:
Four local nonprofits benefited from the caring and supportive efforts of Rotarian members during the Rotary Has Heart Service Day.
George Hartsfield and Amanda Diaz of Boys’ Haven brought materials to be assembled for mailing for their 33rd Annual Crawfish Food & Music Festival in May. Three hundred mailers were stuffed and sealed. Task acomplished.
Rotarian Norma Sampson and Mark Guzman brought more than 650 Men's Health and Prostate Cancer Screening materials back to the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program office after a fast-paced assembly line prepared the blue stadium cups filled with information to heighten awareness of prostate cancer and other chronic diseases prevalent in Southeast Texas. Another mission accomplished.
Juanita Hockett represented Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas. Rotarians assembled 192 snack bags containing juice and 4 to 5 food items to be distributed to patrons of the Hospitality Center in Port Arthur to help provide sustenance until the next hot meal served at the Center. All supplies were used so task accomplished.
Lastly, Rotarian Alicia McKibbin was excited to have all 500 invitations stuffed for an event to be held at the Chambers House in March. Alicia and her staff have to finish addressing the invites and they’ll be ready to mail!
