Welcome to the podium, Terry Jung. Mr. Jung describes his position with the Lone Survivor Foundation as "a way to give back to those worthy veterans of the USA affected in combat."
Through his presentation, Mr. Jung will share how the Lone Survivor Foundation's holistic and therapeutic retreats offer service men and women and their families a place to heal together as they work through the consequences of war.
The retreats provide support for invisible injuries through psycho-educational groups, Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) using the EAGALA method, as well as individual sessions focused on brief stress reduction exercises to reduce symptoms of traumatic stress and pain.
The first wine-tasting event to benefit the Beaumont Rotary Foundation and the education projects it funds, "Wine Down With Rotary," will take place on Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Beaumont Event Centre. Get tickets by linking here.
Envisioned and inspired by President Pat Anderson, the event will recognize the selfless work of the members of the Board of Managers while the Club raises necessary funds for our education projects. And, as Pat has said many times, it will meet the FIFTH question of the Four-Way Test: Is it fun?
We need sponsors for many aspects of the event: $400 underwrites a table of appetizers, $250 funds a case of wine, even your $100 donation will help us in important ways like complimentary tickets and gifts to our honorees, cover printing and advertising costs, etc. (Click on image below to see what Sponsorships are still available.)
(Click on image to view the growing list of sponsors and call to add your name.)
We are grateful for the growing number of sponsors who have already confirmed their support. We will be advertising for them in return for their donation. Please patronize these businesses in return for their support of our efforts and please add your business to the list of sponsors!
Of course, the event will only be successful with lots of people attending. We need Rotarians to purchase and sell tickets! For only $35 (in advance), you and your friends can enjoy a tasting of up to six carefully selected, choice wines. ALL TICKETS THAT ARE OUT ON CONSIGNMENT NEED TO BE RETURNED BY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 SO WE CAN HONE IN ON A HEADCOUNT. PLEASE RETURN STUBS AND PAYMENT FOR THOSE SOLD. (Hopefully, you have sold them!)
Let's build the planter beds at Nutrition & Services for Seniors!
- aerial photo by Tim Sudela
ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, we will construct 15 8"x 8"x 16" cinder block planter beds where some delicious homegrown vegetables will soon grow! The beds are only one block (8") tall.
Volunteers are asked to please bring shovels and 4' levels if you have one. Wheelbarrows are also needed. The work will be dirty; it is recommended that volunteers bring a pair of shoes to work in that they can take off when driving home to protect the floor of the vehicle.
No power tools, generators or air compressors will be needed. Just good strong backs to lift, tote and stack!
The weather is supposed to be beautiful and in the 80's with low humidity. Chairman Craig will have copies of the bed layouts and the diagrams of the proper placement of the cinder blocks. Come on! It is a fun challenge to get this project "growing!"
The Polio Pig was filled with $11 last week. Keep that loose change and dollar bills coming in for polio eradication. With the current match from the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, MORE THAN 100 children can be vaccinated for life with that donation!
Before coming to the meeting, clean out your desk drawers and the drink holders in your vehicle, and bring all that change to the meeting. Dollar bills and your checks are accepted too!Feed the Polio Pig!
The effort to eradicate polio from the globe will continue until completed and successfully accomplished!
Interact and Rotaract clubs are joining together to pack toiletry bags for local youth rescued from human trafficking. Please help by saving small personal care items such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, ponytail bands, combs, and hairbrushes. You can bring donations to any meeting and we will see that it is given to the youth organizations.

Rotary gave a warm welcome to several participants and singers in the Beaumont Community Player’s version of "The King and I." They each and collectively sang several songs and were fantastic.
The remaining dates to see the show are September 18, 19, 24,25 and 26. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children. As a reminder, "The King and I" won 4 Tony awards last year so go see it and enjoy the show.
