Wondering what to give a friend or neighbor at this gift-giving time of the year? A subscription to "Show Your Colors" flag project is a perfect fit, and it will be enjoyed year-round!
Call the Rotary Office and we will help you with all the arrangements to get a subscription set up for 2015 delivery.
The Layette Committee wants to expand the project to include a specially made bag for a mother and her baby in Nicaragua that will be a "gift" from you to honor or recognize a friend or relative.
Your $50 donation to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation will underwrite a layette bag that will provide what is needed for healthy, loving care of an infant.
Please give your gift (checks payable to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation) and pick up a card you can give to the person you honor with your generous gift. If you prefer, you can pay online with your credit card by using the "Layette Bag" button on the bottom of our donation page (click here to access).
For questions, phone Bel Lamb or the Rotary Office.
The students from BISD schools who were selected to attend RYLA 2015 are receiving recognition right on the homepage of the BISD website. Of course, this fun and impactful Rotary program is recognized at the same time.
Go to the website: www.bmtisd.com and watch for the logo and article to come up on the scrolling headline news. Special thanks go to Rotarian Nakisha Myles for her consistent help with communication and publicity.
We send wishes for a quick recovery to our friends and fellow Rotarians who have recently been ill. We hope you are better soon!

Please let us know of others who should be included in our weekly good wishes article.
Our speaker, Tommy Thompson, Associate Professor at Lamar University, was introduced by Ted Moor.
Dr. Thompson's presentation was entitled "Preparation For Retirement."
In a Powerpoint presentation, Dr. Thompson presented his talk with the sobering title "Will You Outlive Your Money?"
Dr. Thompson briefly explained "Six Mistakes That People Make When Planning Retirement":
1. having no clue how much income is needed
2. having no clue how much you will spend
3. under-estimating the costs of healthcare
4. reacting rashly to Market-volatility
5. failure of NOT being fully diversified
6. failure to pay attention to fees, associated with retirement accounts
He posed four critical questions that everyone should answer:
1. Will I have more or less debt when I retire?
2. How much MORE traveling will I do once I retire?
3. Will my/our travel increase or decrease?
4. Am I aware of the 'out-of-pocket' costs in retirement associated with my healthcare?
Dr. Thompson then explained the importance of "Retirement Replacement Ratio Process":
1. How much pre-retirement income is needed?
2. How much of a tax-expense will I have (will it increase or decrease)?
3. How much will I be expending on shelter/home/property?
Additionally, he added the following areas to be seriously considered:
1. Will educational expenses increase or decrease?
2. Will the cost for apparel and services increase or decrease?
3. Will the cost of transportation increase or decrease?
4. Will the cost of healthcare increase or decrease?
5. Will the cost of utilities increase or decrease?
6. Will the cost of entertainment increase or decrease?
Most people do not maximize their capacity to contribute to their own savings/retirement/money market accounts. The rule of thumb is to FIRST contribute as much as allowed by law, especially when your employer matches ANY portion. Match your employer's contributions by 100% if possible.
Secondly, explore a Roth Account (discuss this option with your Financial Advisor). This includes any decisions regarding converting other plans into a Roth (Roll-over).
Dr. Thompson then fielded several questions from Rotarians.
Sponsor ads appear on the website continuously and are included in the sidebar of the RotaryGrams each week. One will be spotlighted weekly to express our appreciation.
