Dr. Maxie C. Sprott II, MD is a seasoned obstetrician-gynecologist based in Beaumont, Texas, with more than four decades of dedicated clinical experience in women’s health. A graduate of Meharry Medical College (Class of 1980), Dr. Sprott completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals and has spent his career serving patients across Southeast Texas, with a focus on comprehensive obstetric care and gynecologic practice. He is affiliated with CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth and continues to provide compassionate care that supports women’s health through all stages of life.

Healthcare is in Dr. Sprott’s blood. He hails from a family of pioneering physicians who helped shape medical access in Beaumont during the Jim Crow era. His uncles, including Dr. Edward D. Sprott Jr. and Dr. Curtis B. Sprott, were instrumental in establishing Sprott Hospital in 1944, a facility that became a vital center of care and professional opportunity for Black patients and Black healthcare professionals when segregation limited access elsewhere. The hospital stands as a testament to the Sprott family’s commitment to equitable care and community service.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sprott enjoys time with his many foster animals and has an appreciation for jazz music, blending a life of service with personal passions that reflect his long roots in the community.

The Rotary Club of Beaumont is pleased to announce its scholarship to be awarded to two high school students graduating in 2026.

The application must be completed by all students wishing to be considered for a Rotary Club of Beaumont Scholarship. The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and recommend to the Board those two students whose academic success, leadership potential, and community service activities demonstrate a commitment to “Service Above Self.”

Deadline for application is March 2nd, 2026. Only applications that are completed and received by the deadline will be considered. A copy of this application is available HERE.

We will be assembling layette bags as a service project for expecting and new mothers in Honduras. A sign-up link will be provided for one-hour volunteer shifts that will be happening February 12, 2026.

Volunteers in the early shifts will help open boxes, sort items, and organize supplies into groups. Volunteers in the later shifts will assemble the items into layette bags and prepare them for shipment.

The meeting opened with introductions, a prayer led by Joanne Brown, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Amanda Ellis welcomed visiting Rotarian Mike Campbell from Carrero and noted interest from several guests in potential membership. Administrative business followed, including board approvals of three new member proposals and one termination, with a 10-day period for member objections.

Several upcoming club and community events were announced. Members were encouraged to support the Child Abuse and Forensic Services brunch through sponsorships, ticket purchases, and table décor donations. Upcoming activities also included Rotary After Hours at Elsa’s on February 5, nonprofit assistance projects on February 11, layette assembly at the Foundation for Southeast Texas on February 12, and the International Women’s Day event on March 11, which will feature a Fortune 500 CEO as the keynote speaker.

Randolph Russell presented on the importance of American history education and the growing knowledge gap among U.S. citizens. He referenced surveys and studies demonstrating widespread misunderstandings of basic historical facts and government principles, emphasizing how historical literacy supports informed citizenship and national identity. He also shared insights from his book, American History in No Time, which offers a concise and accessible overview of key events, figures, and founding principles. The presentation concluded with a brief Q&A.
