PROGRAM REVIEW
June 26, 2024

End of Year Celebration
By Tim Sudela

Rotarians took it to the MAXwell!

When ‘Roasting’ Rebekah Maxwell, there are only two things you can do; lie and/or deflect. As is tradition when the Rotary Club of Beaumont says adieu, the outgoing club President receives a ‘parting gift’. The roster of roasters at the 6/26 Swan Song was led by Craig Escamilla (CEO at 23) and included Brad Brown, Lynn Hill, and Michael H Perez. Since it is difficult to roast someone as professional and kind-hearted as Ms. Maxwell, the panel resorted to embellishing events and roasting each other. It was a fun sendoff to a wonderful Rotary year led by a fantastic leader.

In addition to acknowledging the outgoing board of directors and members with perfect attendance, several special awards were also presented. The ‘Spirit of Rotary’ award was presented to Kevin Reed. This award was initiated several years ago to pay tribute to a member who has personified the Rotary spirit within their first five years as a club member.
The ‘Rookie of the Year’ award is presented to the Rotarian who is ‘quick out of the blocks’ making a big impact within their first year. This year there were two recipients; Steve Shoemaker and Kwanita Adair who are always quick with their ‘yes’.

Joe Fisher Jr. was presented an award of appreciation for his generous support of the Beaumont Rotary Foundation. This foundation helps support student scholarships, RYLA, and the many service projects conducted by Rotarians.

Dee Lane and Lane Olson were both presented with Paul Harris Fellows by Rebekah for their special commitment to the Rotary Club of Beaumont this past year.

Don’t forget that we will not be meeting next week on July 3rd (since Rebekah can’t make it), so let’s use this opportunity to ‘cleanse the pallet’ before Michael H. Perez takes the gavel for the 2024-25 Rotary year for our club. I’m sorry.
