Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
In the initial years of the organization, Rotarians learned about one another and the various diverse professions of the members by meeting in the offices, factories, businesses and firms of the club members. How about doing as one of the original members did back in the early 1900s?

Rotaract President
Program Review: Sheree Pierce
President Uliana Trylowsky opened the Rotary Club of Beaumont meeting and welcomed attendees, both in-person and on Zoom. She introduced the day's program, which included an invocation by Gigi Mazzola, pledges by Caralee Thompson, and introductions by Paul Koester. The meeting began with Gigi Mazzola leading the invocation and the pledges to the country and the state of Texas lead by Caralee Thompson.
Guest Announcements and Upcoming Events
Paul Koester introduced the day's guests, including Elle Wallace and Paula McGoo, who were accompanied by Stephanie Harris and Amanda Ellis respectively. The meeting featured announcements about upcoming events, including Rotary Goes to Work on April 22nd and a pollinator garden replanting event at Terrell Park Nature Center on Saturday at 9 AM, which will be conducted in collaboration with the Spindletop Club.
Rotaract Club Collaboration Overview
John Lee, introduced Amber Simpson, president of Lamar University's Rotaract Club. Amber presented an overview of the club's activities, including events like Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Butterfly Release, and Wine Down with Rotary, highlighting their focus on community service, leadership development, and personal growth. Questions from club members sparked a great discussion included suggestions for improving collaboration between the Rotaract Club and the Rotary Club, such as inviting Rotaract representatives to board meetings and enhancing communication through social media and event promotions.
As is our practice, a donation was made to Rotary International in honor of our speaker. this week, it went to the area of Education and Literacy.
Closing
The meeting ended with an announcement about Rotary Goes to Work and a reminder about planting at Terrell Park, and a reminder to attend the Executive of the Year dinner honoring our own Robert Turner, followed by the recitation of the Four-Way Test.
