Dr. Charles (Charley) Gilliland, a native of Colorado, grew up on a cattle ranch and graduated from Regis College in Denver, Colorado with an A.B. degree. Dr. Gilliland earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Texas A&M University.
Dr. Gilliland currently holds an appointment as a Research Economist with the Real Estate Center in the Office of the Provost and an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University. He also served as Clinical Professor of Finance in the Master of Real Estate program in the Mays School.
The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers bestowed its Golden Quill Award on Dr. Gilliland. The Farm Credit Bank of Texas inducted Dr. Gilliland into the Academy of Honor for significant contributions to agriculture.
Dr. Gilliland has served as President of the Bryan Texas Rotary Club where he is a member of the Paul Harris Society. He also has served as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 5910. In addition, he also serves on the Youth Exchange Committee for Rotary District 5910 and Governor Nominee.
Dr. Gilliland has an extensive publication record, including a book entitled Buying Rural Land In Texas published by the Texas A&M University Press.

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION PRESENTED
Since the earliest days of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, it has been a tradition to record the passing of a member into Club history with the writing of a Memorial Resolution to document his/her service and contributions. The reading of the Resolution is an opportunity to reflect on the good deeds and significant impact the Rotarian had on the Club and the community. The formally printed document is given to the family members, added to the Club's archives, and entered into the records of the Tyrrell Historical Library.
On July 30, the Rotary Club of Beaumont gathered to recognize and celebrate the life of former Rotarian Charles Locke, a dedicated member of our club since 1958. Fellow Rotarian Floyd McSpadden read a heartfelt Resolution in his honor.
The Rotary Classification for Charles was "Burial-Cemeteries-Retired." Throughout his years of service, Charles was a highly valued member, known for his commitment and unwavering support of Rotary’s mission. His contributions and presence left a lasting impact on our club and community.
Charles passed away on May 31, 2024. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

Rotary Club Community Service Meeting
President Uliana Trylowsky welcomed attendees to the Rotary Club of Beaumont meeting, emphasizing the importance of community service and unity. She introduced the day's speakers and guests, including James Guzman who led the invocation, Chuck Heare who led the pledges, and Norma Sampson who introduced our guests. President Uliana Trylowsky highlighted the success of recent meetings and encouraged members to sign up for various volunteer opportunities. The meeting agenda included a memorial resolution, which Floyd McSpadden, a past Rotary president, was invited to present. The Rotarian of the Day, Caralee Thompson, spoke about the Children's Miracle Network fundraising efforts. Amanda Ellis introduced our speaker, Kayla White to the podium.
Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser Update
Caralee Thompson, the program manager for Children's Miracle Network at Christus Southeast Texas Foundation, was the Rotarian of the day. Thompson discussed the upcoming fundraisers for Children's Miracle Network, including Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen and Miracle Bucket Days at Ace Hardware and other locations. She emphasized that all funds raised would stay local and benefit children at various facilities in Southeast Texas.
Supporting Nonprofits Through Training
Amanda Ellis introduced Kayla White, the leader of the Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center, who discussed the center's mission to support local nonprofits through training, consulting, and grant writing services. Kayla highlighted the importance of strong nonprofits in addressing community needs and their economic impact. She announced new initiatives, including a partnership with ExxonMobil and an upcoming conference. Some events coming up are Great Board Recruit and Nonprofit Expo on October 23rd and the 2025 Southeast Texas Nonprofit Conference on November 4th. White encouraged local nonprofits to connect with the Southeast Texas Nonprofit Development Center for resources and support
Next week's meeting will feature our District 5910 Governor Charlie Gilliland.
The conversation ended with information about upcoming events and a reminder about the four-way test of Rotary.
