FEBRUARY 13: Club Service Day
Indeed, “Rotary has heart,” and the Rotary Club of Beaumont has a BIG heart, giving time and resources in Service Above Self year round. How appropriate that we designate a date close to Valentine’s Day as our Club Service Day, providing hands-on service to multiple projects and collectively having a BIG impact!
We have plans for several different hands-on service projects to work on and possibly complete on Service Day. The first priority is to assemble 150 Layette bags for women and children of Nicaragua. Everyone will have the opportunity to roll up his/her sleeves and lend a hand to this project, funded in part with a grant from District 5910.
If you sit on a board or work with an agency in Beaumont that has a need for help with a hands-on project to be done that day, please contact Joy Walker or the Rotary office to learn what will be needed to be included. Joy can be reached at revjoywalker@aol.com or 1-318-426-6136.
Plan now to bring co-workers and friends with you to the meeting on February 13 as the more hands and hearts we have working together, the more we will be able to accomplish on this day of service!

The T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics is presented annually to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen vocation.

The original criteria for the award explains:
Nominees must be a member in good standing of the Rotary Club of Beaumont.
Nominees will have exhibited high ethical standards in their chosen vocation arising from a specific incident or by their consistent actions over a period of time.
First presented in 1996, the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics has annually recognized some of the Club's outstanding members. In 2018, this prestigious honor was presented to Steve Lucas.

Our Club will award the coveted honor at the February 27th meeting, according to this year's chairman, Henry Venta. Jeff Dyson, past recipient, has been selected as the guest speaker on the topic of ethics.

International Women's Day: a Celebration of Women in Rotary

International Women's Day, globally recognized on March 8 each year, is a day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Within our club, we have made it a tradition to recognize women who have played a significant role in the advancement of female members in Rotary International. Anne Matthews was the first speaker in this series to address the Rotary Club of Beaumont and, in 2018, Rotarians and guests enjoyed hearing the story of the acceptance of female Rotarians from Sylvia Whitlock, one of the first women in the world permitted to join Rotary, but only after a favorable Supreme Court ruling.
The Rotary Club of Beaumont is proud to announce the celebration of International Women's Day 2019 at the club meeting on Wednesday, March 6, when we will welcome Jennifer Jones as the featured speaker. The location for this meeting will be The Laurels at 1315 Calder Avenue.
Jennifer Jones served as the Vice President of Rotary International in 2016-17 and is currently the co-chair of the End Polio Now-Make History Today campaign to raise $150-million dollars. She is the promotions chair for the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany. She has served the organization as a training leader, moderator, committee vice-chair, coordinator and President’s Representative. She has also played a lead role in Rotary’s rebranding effort as the Chair of the Strengthening Rotary’s Advisory Group. Ms. Jones has been recruited as the keynote speaker at numerous training workshops and conferences around the world.
You do not want to miss this meeting. Please mark your calendar now. Invite and plan to bring friends, associates, and prospective members.
In addition to your guests, the committee is inviting Rotarians from other clubs in District 5910 to join us. We anticipate a large audience of men and women celebrating International Women's Day and Women in Rotary.
Although this is a Wednesday Rotary meeting that you would normally attend, to ensure that we have adequate food and seating, kindly make a reservation for the number in your party by calling the Rotary office at 409-842-1913, emailing admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org or responding to the electronic reservation form (link here) by February 22. Members of the Rotary Club of Beaumont will submit a lunch ticket as usual or purchase one for $18. Rotarians and guests may purchase a ticket for $18 in advance through the online link by Friday, February 22.

Your generosity was very much appreciated by those who spend endless hours providing care for children when they are at their most vulnerable.
At the request of the Board of Directors, the Beaumont Rotary Foundation made a donation to help with the Foster Children's Christmas party in December when they found themselves short of funds due to reduced donations from jurist fees.

"What a great meeting!" "We had a really good time, and I learned a lot about... ." Rotarians were reporting they truly enjoyed the day as they had the opportunity to attend "Rotary Goes to Work" on Wednesday, January 30.
