It is certainly an honor to have John Malcolm Bales as our speaker this week. The United States Attorney serves as the chief federal law enforcement official in the entire Eastern District of Texas.
"As the ranking federal law enforcement official in the entire district (which has roughly two million inhabitants) the United States Attorney represents the United States of America, and thus acts as the principal legal representative, advisor and litigator on behalf of all agencies and components of the United States Government within the jurisdiction."

In 2009, John Malcolm Bales was appointed to serve as the United States Attorney and two years later, President Obama nominated Bales to fill the position.
Garden Fence Project at Nutrition & Services Underway!
Work to Continue on July 18
And it has begun!
Week One was successfully completed! The crew of volunteers installed the fence posts and the fence structure was leveled and cemented.
Chair Craig Lively expresses his heartfelt thanks to our club for the work they did this past Saturday building the fence for Nutrition and Services! The turnout was wonderful and the hard work results were obvious! Moreover, it passed the 5th question of the Four-Way Test: "Is it fun?" Indeed, it was fun!
On the 18th, the actual fence pickets, the top runner, gates and hardware will be added to complete the project. Wouldn't you love to be a part? Come to the site at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The location is 4590 Concord Rd, across Concord from the Village Shopping Center.
Plan to bring WATER, work gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a power screwdriver if you have one.
Please give us an idea of how much help we can expect. Use our convenient sign up here or let Craig know at the meeting on Wednesday.
Thank you to the many volunteers who help with the "Show Your Colors" Flag Project. The residents of Beaumont whom you serve with your efforts continue to tell us how grateful they are for the deliveries. These notes were received recently with payments of invoices.
Our speaker today was Jason Pettrey, Operations Support and Energy Improvement Department Head, Technical Division for ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery. Ted Moor introduced him and received overwhelming, rousing applause from our membership.
In a presentation entitled, "The Outlook for Energy: A View To 2040", Jason presented a Powerpoint slideshow with a great deal of information.
Explaining energy measures and units in a manner everyone could understand, Jason presented the following:
One standard log of wood equals 24,000 BTU's; and
One gallon of gas equals five standard logs of wood.
Energy Demands (in the USA):
Home ............. = 7 logs
Auto .............. = 6 logs
Industry ................ = 11 logs
Commercial, etc. ... = 10+ logs
Energy Demands Per Capita (USA vs. the World)
34.0 logs per capita .... vs .... 9.0 logs
7.0 gallons of gas... vs ... 1.7 gallons
Primary energy demands by sector:
# 1 Industrial
# 2 Transportation
# 3 Residential/Commercial
Projected Growth From 2010 to 2040:
Oil - .8%
Gas - 1.6%
Coal - .1%
Biomass - .5%
Nuclear - 2.3%
Solar/ etc - 5.8%
Hydro/geo - 1.8%
Energy Supply (worldwide) by type:
# 1 - biofuels
# 2 - other
# 3 - natural gas
# 4 - tight oil
# 5 - oil sands
# 6 - deepwater/Arctic drilling
# 7 - conventional crude & condensate
It is the developing economies that will dominate energy growth until 2040.
Jason opened the floor for questions. Leonard Juncker asked, "What will we rely on when we have exhausted our planet's supply of carbon?" Jason replied, "Our technology."
