Wednesday's program is an important Club Assembly as we start a new and exciting year. On June 12th, we will hold a club assembly as we start to focus on the 2024-2025 Rotary year. During this session, we will discuss the five lanes of committees for the club, along with the organizational chart. Be thinking about what activities of the club and a committee on which to serve. During our club assembly, we will also outline what focus areas we plan to address this year.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Bayou Bend CCS Overview
Sharita Gardner- Corporate Affairs Manager Bayou Bend
Scott Whitmire- Project Director Bayou Bend
By Diane Bass

Kristi Young, Founder and Chief Consultant of KMY Consulting, introduced Sharita Gardner the Corporate Affairs Manager who introduced Scott Whitmire the Project Director of Bayou Bend Project. CCS is carbon capture and storage. Carbon capture (CO₂) is captured before or after it enters the atmosphere. It is reused to produce low or negative emissions products such as cement, steel, chemicals, plastics and fuels or is permanently stored underground. Large scale CO₂ has been working safely and effectively for decades in oil and gas production. Bayou Bend partners have years of experience pioneering CO₂ injection and operating CO₂ pipelines. The Gulf Coast is well positioned as a storage hub with a large number of industrial facilities adjacent to world-class storage geology.

Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) plays a critical role in advancing a lower carbon future. Recent increases in federal 45Q tax credits enable commercial viability of most projects which has created momentum in the CCUS market. Bayou Bend CCS LLC is operated by Chevron with co-owners Equinor and TotalEnergies. This project has nearly 14,000 acres of pore space for permanent CO₂ sequestration. It is positioned to be the leading transportation and storage solution for industrial emitters located in one of the largest industrial corridors in the country.

The project began in April of 2022 with a lease signed with Texas GLO. In May Chevron joined Bayou Bend CCS LLC and in 2023 it was expanded offshore with Chevron named as operator. This year drilling operations began on the offshore and onshore wells and by March TotalEnergies acquired Talos Low Carbon Solutions and will own a 25% share along with Equinor owning 25% share. Bayou Bend leadership has an open-door policy to address community questions. They are committed to protecting our environment, neighbors, and employees. To learn more about Bayou Bend visit BayouBend.com.

Thank you to Sharita and Scott for bringing us vital information about this innovative way to reduce carbon emissions and provide increased opportunities for new businesses resulting in increased employment opportunities.
