Every year, Rotaractors and Rotarians around the world celebrate World Rotaract Week during the week of March 13 to commemorate the founding of the first club in 1968.
World Rotaract Week is a time for celebrating the success and importance of the Rotaract program. With the two clubs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Beaumont, we have much to celebrate! Both clubs consistently step up to participate and assist with projects and service work of the Rotary Club of Beaumont but maintain their own very busy schedule of Rotary activities as well.

On March 16, Dr. Bart Foster, Entomologist with Bill Clark Pest Control will inform us about the mosquito season ahead and the facts about the Zika virus.
March 23 is the much anticipated Rotary Goes to School when Rotarians spread across all schools in Beaumont to deliver each 1st grader their own copy of an awesome Dr. Seuss book. Sign up for your school choice.
WE URGENTLY NEED VOLUNTEERS ON SATURDAY FOR A "GROWING" PROJECT?
Your help is needed in restoring a treasured part of Texas - the Big Thicket! The Big Thicket Association is seeking Rotarians' assistance in planting 10,000 seedlings for the Centennial Forest project in 2016. This will also help restore the native Long Leaf Pine forest in the Big Thicket. The tree seedlings are small and the tools needed to plant the trees are provided.
Members of the club, friends and family members are needed to join in the effort to help plant trees on the last remaining tree planting day this season - Saturday, March 12.
RSVP requested by Noon on Friday, March 11h. We need to know how many are coming!

Travel North on HWY 69…continue on HWY 69 north past Kountze then turn left on 1003 (Honey Island)…turn right on FM 943 …at the Big Sandy Creek Unit sign stay to the right on FM 1276…continue past Dallardsville…turn left at FM 1276 on to Lily Road…follow the signs to planting site.
If you arrive later a Ranger can give you directions.
Promoting literacy is a goal of Rotary International and a favorite project of the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Each spring, Rotarians flood the first grade classrooms across Beaumont and share the love of reading and delivering a book for every child to keep for their very own. You want to be a part of this.
Sign up to take part in "Rotary Goes to School!" Instead of the normal lunch meeting on Wednesday, March 23, you'll enjoy a truly rewarding visit with a young child.
To sign up for the school you would like to visit, click on this link: "ROTARY GOES TO SCHOOL" There will be paper sign-up lists at the meeting on Wednesday.
Volunteers should arrive by Noon at the school office. Bring a photo ID in order to clear a security check if needed. You will be given a Dr. Seuss hat and escorted to the classroom where you will find the books ready to be shared with each child.
Rotary After Hours: A Lovely Evening on the Neches!
Whether this is your first trip or you've been many times, you are sure to enjoy this Rotary After Hours which will take you on a cruise down the Neches River on a pleasant early spring evening.
Mark your calendar and plan to reserve your spot on the Ivory Bill on Thursday, March 24for a two-hour tour. Snacks and drinks will be available. Tickets are $10 per person and we can only take 35 people (spouses and guests are welcome), so don't delay.

Dr. Matthews’ South Carolina drawl should never be mistaken for moving slowly. Working on her father’s words of “You can do what you want to do as long as you work hard,” Anne has amassed very impressive credentials within Rotary International and in the world of education.
The youngest of 15 children raised on a tobacco farm, Anne learned early about team sports and played baseball and football. Her favorite team sport is football, and she made it clear she is a South Carolina Gamecock and hopes to come back in the next life and coach them to an SEC championship.
Anne’s passions in Rotary are to feed the hungry, provide healthcare, clean water and immunizations for those living in poverty. She asked us all to remember how blessed we are to live in the United States and to be able to eat what we want, have clean water to drink, sanitation and access to healthcare. Some 13 million people starve to death each year and one billion go to bed hungry every night. Two- thirds of the children who die each year would not have died if healthcare would have been accessible.
One half of the people in developing countries are drinking contaminated water. Sanitation is a problem that we certainly don’t think about here. We take many things for granted. Water is a precious commodity “on loan from nature.” The RI Foundation has committed 25 million dollars over the next 25 years to increase clean water sources throughout the world.
“Literacy is the escape hatch from poverty.” The greatest predictor of health care is education. 26% of the world’s population can neither read nor write their names and of those, two-third are women. Education is the greatest gift to give.
The Rotary Foundation is playing a major role in all of these areas as well as providing immunizations. This year only two cases of polio have been reported: in Pakistan and Afghanistan. We need to keep working and are hopeful that our government’s task force will fund the immunization project in 2016. The Foundation is hopeful we will see the completion of the Polio eradication project this year.
Anne made a request to each Rotarian: “Continue to be a gift to the world.” Rotarians ARE making a difference and need to continue doing so. What will be remembered about each of us when we leave this earth is the significance of our gift to the world, our integrity and courage. Think about what you will leave behind.
