Michael Perez (pictured center back) was the "elf" who helped to deliver 100 books from Rotarians to the Family Resource Center as the Club's holiday donation this year.
These children, and many others, will enjoy hours of reading and imaginative fun as they experience the many, many books donated to the agency. Thank you to all who gave one or more of these literary treasures.
On January 13, the RYLA team and students will be officially welcomed home from their weekend experience and the club will get to hear about it. This is always a great program with a number of guests invited to attend, including the students and parents.
If you can spare a lunch ticket or two in order for us to graciously accommodate these guests, please donate at the January 6 meeting or send to the office at your convenience.
Did you see the great article about the Club's Vocational Excellence Award presentation in the December issue of the Beaumont Journal? Nearly a full page, it describes these special honors and names all the presenters and recipients in detail while highlighting the good work of the Club as we promote excellence in the workplace.
Thank you to the Vocational Excellence Award Committee for your work to recognize others. Thank you to Kevin King, Business Editor, and the Business Journal for the publicity.

Kelly Interact Sponsor Shares of Club's Gift of Charity
A few weeks ago about 13 Kelly Interact members plus three choir members met to stuff 300+ empty toilet rolls with chapstick, rubber Christmas bracelets, holiday candies, and more. They were wrapped with leftover wrapping paper donated by For Heaven Sake.
Last Thursday evening, an even larger group gathered again and went to St. Elizabeth Hospital and delivered those handcrafted treats to every nurses' station, floor-by-floor, including the Emergency Room. The older boys surprised custodial staff hard at work in every nook and cranny including the cafeteria. They sang Christmas carols and gave hugs to many. When they sang Silent Night, people cried. When the group reached the "baby" floor, where a family was gathered awaiting news of their first grandson, the grandparents requested a song and sang along with us. One male nurse hurriedly followed the group to the elevator to take a picture and tell the students what the simple act did for morale.
They were unbelievably kind to the staff and waved to patients, keeping quiet and respectful in serious areas and joyful and crazy when singing "Rudolf" with added words I did not know! I think they could have stayed all night.
Do you know of a young lady entering the Neches River Festival as a princess in 2016?
If your daughter or granddaughter is a student at a Beaumont school, a graduating high school senior planning to take part in the festivities who would like to be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Beaumont, please submit her name by calling the Rotary Office (842-1913.) The Board of Directors will consider all submitted at the next meeting.
Several Rotarians who heard the presentation by Sergeant Ken Carona of the Port Arthur Police Department on December 9 have inquired about how to contact him to arrange for another group to hear his message. His presentation on how to deal with an active shooter situation was certainly one that needs to be repeated at all possible opportunities.
The annual Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 15 was awesome fun! The aroma of delicious food piqued the palate. Holiday sounds filled the room and warmed the hearts of 100 Rotarians, spouses, friends, and guests. The very enjoyable traditional holiday music and caroling was provided by the Beaumont Community Players and pianist Betty Duncan.
The big "reveal" of the evening was the announcement of the President Nominee of the Rotary Club of Beaumont: Tim Sudela. As President Nominee,Tim will assume office July 1 of 2017.
