Dr. Adolph opened his speech with “Somedays we should never forget” and December 7, 1941, is one of them. That day in history a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor killed 2,300 military troops and the next day the United States declared war.

Dr. Adolph declared that he was not a good student but he did persevere enough to receive 3 degrees. The subject that he did understand was history. And that fascinated him. He praised FDR and Congress in their unification and their fast action in declaring war. He mourned the deaths of 2,300 military troops who gave their lives on that day. In 1945 the war ended with the hope that this would never happen again. With our system of human existence “history could repeat.”

Dr. Adolph’s observed that there are many people who work hard for everything they have in order to make their lives and their children’s’ lives better. However, there are some people in our society who want us to give them something for nothing. He spoke of a young man at the grocery store who was gathering baskets to take back to the store and he added his basket. The young man said thanks and eventually he told Dr. Adolph that he had Down Syndrome. Dr. Adolph wanted to thank him monetarily, but the young man refused saying that he was paid for working and couldn’t accept any other pay: he understood the concept of work and was happy that he could work.

Members of our society need to work. “We need to train our children that education and hard work are the keys.” Our children should be able to go to school without fear of danger.” We should be unifying against those who cannot understand that in a “global” religion people see God differently, but that we are unified; there is a God somewhere whether it is in nature or belief. America is still “One nation under God” and for that Dr. Adolph is thankful.

FDR said “We will fight.” D Day came in 1944 and Europe was freed by a team of nations and with unified forces V Day was achieved in 1945. Freedom was celebrated.

We should celebrate the wonderful team of people that we have in Jefferson County.
