Amber Simpson is a senior at Lamar University, originally from Austin, Texas, and is set to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Social Work, earning summa cum laude honors. She is an active member of the university’s Track & Field team and serves as an officer in both the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the Social Work Student Association. Following graduation, Amber plans to pursue a Master of Social Work and complete the required hours to become a licensed professional counselor, with a passion for serving and supporting others in her community.

Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
In the initial years of the organization, Rotarians learned about one another and the various diverse professions of the members by meeting in the offices, factories, businesses and firms of the club members. How about doing as one of the original members did back in the early 1900s?

President Uliana Trylowsky called the April 8, 2026 Rotary Club of Beaumont meeting to order and introduced the head table. Seated at the head table were Raymong Begnaud, who gave the invocation; Joe Evans, who led the Pledges; Ainsley Thompson, who introduced the guests; and Brad Brown, who introduced the speaker.
Club updates were shared by several members. Volunteers can sign up through Sign-Up Genius to help at the Tyrell Park Pollinator Garden on Saturday, April 18. Rotary Goes to Work is scheduled for April 22; on that day, there will be no meeting at the Elegante Hotel, as members will instead participate at local businesses hosting Rotarians. Rotary Goes Home will take place in May, and Kathryn Fuller is seeking Rotarians willing to host at their homes. Interested members should contact Kathryn.
Brad Brown introduced the guest speaker, Debbie Elliott-Griffith from the Battleship Texas Foundation. Debbie provided an update on Battleship Texas and its ongoing restoration in Galveston, noting that the ship is being restored to reflect its 1945 appearance. She also shared that the Foundation is nearing completion of a $75 million capital campaign. Once restoration is finished, Battleship Texas will be relocated to its permanent home at Pier 15 in Galveston.
President Uliana concluded the meeting by announcing a donation to Rotary International will be made in Debbie’s honor, in appreciation for her presentation. The meeting ended following the Four Way Test.
