MEETING PREVIEW
July 6, 2022

"Installation of Club Leadership
for 2022-2023"

Demetress Harrell
2022-23 District 5910 Governor

Joanne Brown
2022-23 Rotary Club of Beaumont President

We welcome 2022-23 District Governor Demetress Harrell to the opening meeting of the year to deliver her interpretation of how we will "Imagine Rotary" in the upcoming year.  She will install our incoming officers and directors, direct the traditional "Passing of the Gavel," and conduct the installation of incoming President Joanne Brown.  President Joanne will share her inspiration and vision as we begin together to "Imagine Rotary!"

Demetress has been employed by Hospice in the Pines since 1993, serving as Chief Executive Officer since 1998. She has been married since 1988 to her best friend, Demetrius R. Harrell, and currently resides in Lufkin. Demetress is a devoted community advocate and has always embraced service. It was her passion to improve the quality of life for all that led her to become a Rotarian in 1998, and she has been a devoted member ever since. She has served her club as membership chair and President in 2006 and 2015. She has also fulfilled various roles for District 5910 and is currently completing her final year as Assistant Governor of five Clubs. She was honored to be a presenter at the 2018 Rotary International Convention in Toronto, Canada and continues to work on projects with other international peace fellows.

Demetress’s commitment to diversifying membership has led her from District Membership Chair to her exciting role as Rotary International Assistant Rotary Coordinator. Demetress is grateful to be a member of District 5910, and she looks forward to her service as District Governor. She is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a recent member of the Paul Harris Society, and a participant in the Rotary Legacy program.

As their fight to protect Ukraine and the people of the country continues, members of the Rotary Club of Lviv, Ukraine have identified a need: to purchase a fire truck. Would you like to be a part of this major purchase?  Consider giving now by using the QR code which is shown on the homepage of our website. Copies will be available at the meeting on Wednesday also.

We are excited to announce that Petro Chen, Project Chair for the Lviv Rotary Club, will be our speaker at the weekly meeting on Wednesday, July 13th.  Come join us to hear him speak about the war and the Rotarians' efforts to save life and property in their war-torn country.  We hope you will join us by making a donation, and we hope you will join us by attending the meeting on July 13 when we can talk with Petro via the use of technology and tell him of our donation to this critical effort.

THANK YOU, FLAG VOLUNTEERS!
Thank you to the many Rotarians who delayed the start of their holiday in order to be a part of the "Show Your Colors" flag project.  On a day like July 4th, it is an extra special demonstration of their dedication to Service Above Self and patriotism. Great job and thank you, team!

A Salute to 2021-22 President Brad Brown:
'The S.S. Galaivant Set Sail'

Bradley Brown
2021-2022 President
Rotary Club of Beaumont

The Rotary year always ends with a celebration, and this year, like every one before it, wea a celebration of successes of the individuals who contribute to the Club's events and activities to solidify the successes that we enjoy.

Laughter filled the Art Museum of Southeast Texas as guests arrived - many wearing their cruise or island wear.  Of course, food and drink was plentiful and enjoyed by all while relaxing and visiting with one another.

Sharen Kirksey and Leonard Juncker in authentic Hawaiian mumu and matching shirt.

President Brad first presented Perfect Attendance Awards to many Rotarians who were diligent about attending meetings or submitting makeups for their participation.  The culmination of those awards was the recognition of Fred Kristiansen for completing his 47th year of perfect attendance!  One of the last meetings of this Rotary year, Fred and Barbara were on a cruise ship in NORWAY and he joined the Wednesday meeting at Noon on Zoom! He sent a photo to prove it!

t
Rebekah Patin was named Rookie of the Year, receiving recognition from President Brad.

The Spirit of Rotary Award was presented to Lynn Hill.

Wes Shipley was presented with multiple Paul Harris Fellowship recognations he earned this year.

The entire evening was great fun and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you to Jay Wilson for writing the fun script that our "actors" performed.  Many thanks to Deborah Drago for creating the stage set and so many costumes
