The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Sarah Dupre is the public information officer for the Beaumont District of the Texas Department of Transportation. In that role she handles all media inquiries, works with various organizations and groups to promote and explain TxDOT projects, and also handles internal communications. She has been with the department since 2013.
Before joining TxDOT Sarah was a communication specialist for the Diocese of Beaumont and also worked for Cumulus Broadcasting. She is a Southeast Texas native and a graduate of Lamar University.

Before the children or grandchildren head back to school, junior high, high school, or college, bring them to Rotary with you! Not only will you have the opportunity to enjoy some precious time with them, you can also explain to them what Rotary is and what you do each week and why your membership is important to you. This meeting will be about Lamar University and the entire athletic program. Athletic Director Marco Born will be the speaker and he just might have some surprises in store for the guests that day! Don't miss this! Get your red on and come have some fun as the anticipation for school and athletics grows!
Some of our younger guests may prefer a more kid-friendly lunch option than the hot buffet adults like. On this occasion, please plan to pick up a lunch for them to enjoy, but please plan to personally enjoy the buffet options so we can fulfill our financial commitment to the Eleganté. The hotel has options available through the Hemmingway's Cafe, including pizza, that children and teens will enjoy. but please plan to come early to order.

Congratulations to Rotary University Graduates!
It is appropriate that these two good friends challenged each other to earn the coveted Bachelor of Rotary Science degree and a Blue Badge at the same time. Both have been very active in club activities and are extremely active in community efforts.

"Where Do You Fit, and Why Should You Care?"

Karen Chapman joined Spindletop Rotary five years ago when she retired from KFDM in Beaumont. She was still young to be retired and felt like a teenager, only now she had money. The big question in her mind was: NOW WHAT? She began to reflect on her life and realized she had a big bag of mistakes made during the past 50+ years. As a result, she felt compelled to apologize to those she had hurt and to ask for forgiveness. She had to forgive herself as well.
She also had some regrets, the largest one being she had not given anything back to her community. She realized that while she couldn't erase her regrets, she could change the future. The question was how.
One day she attended a Rotary meeting, reluctantly, because she thought it was just a club where a bunch of older men went to socialize and eat lunch. What she found was a total surprise. She learned that Rotary is a worldwide organization of 1.2 million people who provide humanitarian services without regard for race, politics, religion or country. She also realized that Rotary accepted women, so she decided to join. All of a sudden, Karen was a part of a club that does many wonderful things. She became involved in a big way and before long, she was president of her club. She now believes joining Rotary was the best decision she's ever made, aside from marrying her husband, Bobby.
Her "Rotary Moment" was at an international Rotary meeting in Australia. While riding on an elevator with a number of people from Japan and other parts of the world, she realized they were Rotarians too, and followed the same 4 Way Test that she did. She realized she was at a meeting with 20,000 Rotarians that were all doing things to make a difference in the world.
The Rotary motto this year is "Be The Inspiration." Karen challenged us to ask ourselves why we joined Rotary. Was it to make new friends? To network? To provide humanitarian services? Her hope is that the answer is all three. She also challenged us to find a way, or ways, to get more involved in what Rotary is doing in our club – to "Be The Inspiration."
