Jeff Dyson is not a stranger to Rotary or to the "Four-Way Test of the Things We Think, Say, or Do." A former Rotarian, Jeff has been a popular speaker at meetings in the past. He is currently the Corporate Vice-President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of M & D Supply, Inc./M&D Ace Partners, LLC. He is the owner and manager of M & D Real Property, LLC. as well as an adjunct professor and instructor in the Management and Marketing Department of the College of Business at Lamar University. He also serves as Director of the MBA and Graduate Certificate Programs in the College of Business.
Mr. Dyson's presentation will be followed by the presentation of the 2019 T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics by committee chair, Henry Venta. An annual tradition since 1996, the Award is named in honor of the late T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. who served as 1942-43 President of the Rotary Club of Beaumont and as 1951-52 District 5910 Governor. It is presented to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen profession.

Rotarians will participate in creating an innovative learning lab called “The Nest” at Pietzsch-MacArthur Elementary School (4301 Highland Ave, Beaumont 77705) on Saturday, March 2. According to Community Service Projects committee chair, Deborah Drago, "nest-building" will start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 3:00 p.m. and will include assembling and setting up supplies and equipment. Just two hours of your time will help provide PMac “nestlings” with experiential learning opportunities to promote early college awareness.

International Women's Day: a Celebration of Women in Rotary

Within our club, we have made it a tradition to recognize women who have played a significant role in the advancement of female members in Rotary International. Anne Matthews was the first speaker in this series to address the Rotary Club of Beaumont. In 2018, Rotarians and guests enjoyed hearing the story of the acceptance of female Rotarians from Sylvia Whitlock, one of the first women in the world permitted to join Rotary, but only after a favorable Supreme Court ruling.
The Rotary Club of Beaumont is proud to announce the celebration of International Women's Day 2019 at the club meeting on Wednesday, March 6, when we will welcome Jennifer Jones as the featured speaker. The location for this meeting will be The Laurels at 1315 Calder Avenue.
Jennifer Jones served as the Vice President of Rotary International in 2016-17 and is currently the co-chair of the End Polio Now-Make History Today campaign to raise $150-million dollars. She is the promotions chair for the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany. She has served the organization as a training leader, moderator, committee vice-chair, coordinator and President’s Representative. She has also played a lead role in Rotary’s rebranding effort as the Chair of the Strengthening Rotary’s Advisory Group. Widely known for her great storytelling and warm presentations, Ms. Jones has been recruited as the keynote speaker at numerous training workshops and conferences around the world.
You do not want to miss this meeting. Please mark your calendar now. Invite and plan to bring friends, associates, and prospective members.
In addition to your guests, the committee is inviting Rotarians from other clubs in District 5910 to join us. We anticipate a large audience of men and women celebrating International Women's Day and Women in Rotary.

WEAR PINK! on International Women's Day!
"On Wednesdays, we wear pink!" they said in a popular movie and it is the perfect color to wear on March 6, the day the club will celebrate International Women's Day when we acknowledge the achievements of women in Rotary International. You might have seen the special segment on the color on CBS show "Sunday Morning" on February 17th, which noted that the color pink was once the preferred color for the fashionable and aristocratic - women and men! So, though you might not wear it often, on March 6th, pink will be fashionable for everyone!

Meet the Newest Rotarian in our Club!
Rotarians were eager to welcome Stephanie Roberts to the Club as the newest member on February 20. Born in San Francisco, CA, Stephanie now calls Orange, TX her home with husband, David, and two sons. She is Community Outreach Coordinator for Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont and is active with the Chamber of Commerce. It is not at all surprising that she expressed a desire to be a Rotarian as she lists her favorite hobby as "doing volunteer work." Welcome, Stephanie!

"A Gulf Coast Showcase"

Vernon Pierce introduced Trey Fielder and welcomed him to our Rotary meeting. Mr. Fielder is the COO of Natgasoline which is a Greenfield Methanol Production Facility located in our fair city of Beaumont. This is the largest and most efficient methanol facility in the US and began operations in June of 2018. It will produce more than 1.7 million metric tons of methanol annually.
Natgasoline is located on the Neches River and is the only MegaMethanol in the US. It is co-owned by the Houston-based G2XEnergy, Inc. and the Netherlands-based OCI N.V.
Key partnerships include:
Entergy – Built the substation and power lines to supply electricity to the site
Air Liquide – provides industrial gas for oxygen, nitrogen and instrument air
Golden Triangle Storage – is the natural gas interconnect station
LNVA – provides industrial raw water supply
Phillips 66 – provides storage and marine vessel loading and Methanol transportation
CEL and OCI – markets Natgasoline’s production
The big question is "What is Methanol and How is it Used?"
It is a clear colorless alcohol liquid that is water soluble;
It is highly flammable with a clear flame;
Today it is produced mainly through natural gas;
The uses for mainstream methanol are surprising. Here are a few examples:
Natgasoline employs 110 fulltime employees with averages of experience ranging up to 25 years. During the construction phase the employee count was around 1,500. The company believes strongly in hiring locally and giving back to the community. The process of making methanol is environmentally clean. The water that is used from the LNVA canal is returned cleaner than it was obtained. Although Natgasoline does not make gasoline at this time the ability to do so is possible. Should the market forces change in favor of gasoline production then Natgasoline could design and produce quality gasoline for the US.
We appreciate Mr. Fielder educating us on what methanol is and how it is used. Although some of us may have had a little trouble with the science of it – I think we all understand the economic impact of this vital industry to our community. And we welcome him back to Rotary at any time he wishes to join us.
