"Life of all types abounds in the Big Thicket. This national preserve protects the incredible diversity of life found where multiple habitats converge in southeast Texas. Hiking trails and waterways meander through nine different ecosystems, from longleaf pine forests to cypress-lined bayous. It is a place of discovery, a place to wander and explore, a place to marvel at the richness of nature."
Superintendent Prokopetz will give a short introduction to the National Park Service (NPS) and Big Thicket National Preserve (BITH) and Josh Stringer will talk on the NPS/BITH Centennial Program.
Nominations Requested for Coveted VOCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS
In recognition of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Beaumont will recognize and honor individuals who exemplify a “service above self” attitude in their vocation on Wednesday, November 18.
These coveted awards are given annually to community members who demonstrate exceptional service, honesty, and friendliness in performing their jobs. Some past recipients describe receiving this honor as "a treasure," "very special," and "the only time I've received anything like this."
With the chosen date so near Thanksgiving, it will be a wonderful time to give thanks for the good work of others in our community.
We appreciate your support of this honor with your nominations of deserving people who you have come in contact with through your business transactions. Please submit your nomination to Jane Burns at email jane@wdjcpa.comby Friday, November 6, 2015.
The next project work the Club will take on is "Brush With Kindness" for Habitat for Humanity. This wonderful effort will involve building wheelchair ramps for those people who cannot get out of their own homes due to stairs or steps on the entry ways.
With enough people, it should be a "Done in a Day" project. Good feelings for your work should be priceless and will last much longer than one day!
Chair Shannon Williamson will explain more at Wednesday' meeting but plan now to give "Service Above Self" to someone who needs you.
Watch this video from Lincolnshire on their involvement in the "Brush With Kindness" program. It will convince you to come out and help with our first Habitat "Brush with Kindness" project, rescheduled for Saturday, November 7.
We need some good men and women to post the flags for Veteran's Day. If you have committed to Pat Anderson, you are scheduled; if you have not yet done so, please phone the Rotary Office at 409-842-1913. We need you!
The Holiday Party will be Tuesday, December 15 at the Lamar University Reception Center, Mary & John Gray Library, 8th Floor. Social will begin at 6:00, followed by dinner at 6:30 and an entertaining program. Tickets will be $50 per person and are on sale now through the online reservations (click here). Of course, you may also make your reservations and purchase tickets at any upcoming meeting.
As is our custom, the President Nominee will be announced on this special occasion. Mark your calendar now for this "don't miss" event!
Interact and Rotaract clubs are joining together to pack toiletry bags for local youth rescued from human trafficking. Please help by saving small personal care items such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, ponytail bands, combs, and hairbrushes, focusing on deodorant and mouthwash.
You can bring donations to any meeting or directly to the Rotary office, and we will see that it is given to the youth organizations.
Kelly Interact Students created a pumpkin masterpiece and shared the picture with us. You've got to admit - it is a very creative idea to make a movie snack tray of popcorn, root beer, and M&Ms!
"Capital One announced its fifth annual Capital One Community Spotlight Award recipients, Charles and Becky Mason. The Award recognizes business leaders whose leadership and involvement in the community has had a significantly positive impact."
Of course, we know the Masons as our club members and Rotarians who have also made significant impact on our Club, District 5910, and the entire Rotary International organization through their leadership and generosity.
Congratulations, Becky and Chuck! Thank you for all you do.

The hosts rolled out the red carpets and welcomed Rotarians and guests into their homes with warm hospitality!
The photos tell the story of the fun and fellowship enjoyed by all and you need to see them - click here.
Our gracious hosts were Becky and Chuck Mason, Sheree and Vernon Pierce, Elizabeth and Gene Arnold, Lori and Allan Higgins, Lynn and Kris Castle, Connie and Paul Szuch, and Mellie and Sam Bevilacqua.
Cynthia and Michael Wolf arranged for a lunch gathering at the Beaumont Club for those who could not make an evening event. She wrote a narrative of the day including, "Seventeen Rotarians and one Guest enjoyed conversation at three tables of six and getting to know one another better during Table Talk and during Introductions, and creating a Rotary memory captured in our Group Picture which recorded the attendance."
Wherever "Rotary Goes Home" was held, a good time was had by all!
