Troy Gray
Director
Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum
Summer is here and thoughts turn to travel and fun outdoor experiences! Where can you go with so many concerns and restrictions? We have the perfect answer for you! Let's go on a virtual tour of Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown, a not-so-hidden gem in Southeast Texas. Located on the Lamar University campus, the Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is our travel destination!
We encourage you to join the tour with us and "bring along" your children and friends to learn from Director Troy Gray about the buildings, the artifacts, and the people of the early 1900s right here in our own backyard. We will browse around the town which includes a post office, saloon, general store, livery, and a working print shop provided by Rotarian Tom Lamb and family.

Dues invoices will be sent out this month with payment due July 1. If the pandemic has had a negative effect on your employment and you are unable to pay your dues all at once this time, you ARE able to spread your payment over the 6-month period. Speak with Jacque to arrange a payment plan.
If the worst has happened and you find yourself unable to continue your membership in the club now, we sincerely regret it. Please remember to submit a letter of resignation (an email will do also) by June 15 so you are not assessed July-December dues. Non-payment of International and Club dues creates a bad-debt on your Rotary financial record, and you cannot return to membership in this or any other Rotary Club until the bad-debt is paid. If you resign in good-standing before dues are assessed and your account is clear, you will be able to return to membership at a later time without a problem, and we will look forward to you doing so.
If you are leaving the club for any reason, please advise the office before June 15 so you are not assessed July - December 2020 dues.

Rotarians are People of Action! This group of Rotarians were for sure on Friday, June 5 when 500 car trunks or back seats were LOADED with good things to eat! It was non-stop action as the cars kept coming for almost two hours, using double lines to move the number of vehicles as quickly as possible. There were 7 or 8 stops where items were quickly stacked in trunks or rear seats, the car moved on and the next was just behind it. Thankfully, we had a great number of Rotarians come to serve our neighbors and our volunteers were assisted by other volunteers.
Big thanks to: Pat Anderson, B. Eddie Arnold, Cindy Cherry, Tony Clark, Beverly Hatcher, Chuck Heare, Dena Hughes, Cindy Jeanis, John Lee, Gigi Mazzola, Gary Moncla, Sheree Pierce, Vernon Pierce, Terri Potter, Kevin Reed, Stephanie Roberts, John Rollins, Alan Sampson, Tim Sudela, and Juan Zabala. (If you served and your name is left off this list, please report to the Rotary office asap.)
Tim Sudela took some great photos that you need to see to appreciate the scope of the project and the hard work of these Rotarians. However, there is no way to appreciate the heat of the afternoon through the photographs! It was truly Service Above Self so give these Rotarians a special pat-on-the-back when we are able to be together again!

PROGRAM REVIEW
June 3, 2020
"After the Storm - Business is Booming"
Travis Woods
T & L Solutions, LLC
and
Gulf Coast Industrial Group
by Marianne Laine
On June 3, 2020, Rotarians welcomed Travis Woods as guest speaker. With more than 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, Travis, a proud Louisiana Tech graduate, and his wife, Lois, formed T&L Solutions, LLC, a construction and industry consulting firm located near Beaumont. The company offers the advantage of experience to companies that are struggling or planning to expand or grow. T&L also works with project owners to locate competent and qualified contractors to fit a given project’s specific needs. T&L is somewhat of an industrial matchmaker, bringing industry and contractors together for success.
Travis, along with three businessmen, started the Gulf Coast Industrial Group in Lake Charles approximately ten years ago by holding monthly meetings which operated to get plant employees acquainted with various contractors. As a result, the group has expanded to Baton Rouge, Port Arthur, Conroe, and Corpus Christi. The group now has 750 members across the Gulf Coast.
Travis discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and other difficulties facing our country currently, which have caused the delay of various multi-million-dollar projects intended to go forward in and near the Golden Triangle. He expressed optimism that certain of these projects may move forward in the fall of 2020 rather than waiting until 2021, delaying indefinitely, or being canceled. For example, he noted that Chevron bought 2,000 acres in Orange, suggesting that it may build a plant in the near future. Likewise, there is a plan to build 25 miles of railroad track in Groves, and an $88 billion project by the federal government to address how plants handle waste water. These are just a few examples of the projects and plans that will undoubtedly stimulate our local economy and put many of our struggling citizens back to work.
You can watch the presentation via the recorded meeting.
