The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Weekly meetings are being held using Zoom. Sign into the meeting between 11:30 and Noon and you can enjoy some social time with other members before the meeting starts at Noon.

The turn of the calendar page to the first of July means that, together, we begin a new year of Rotary service. Around the world, Presidents are installed, new officers and board members take their seats at the table to lead their club through another year of challenges, experiences, and service to our community and the world.
It is the Rotary Club of Beaumont's good fortune to be installing Cindy Cherry as the 2020-2021 President! Cindy joined Rotary in August of 2008 and has had vast experiences. She has served in just about every lane of service through her almost 12 years of membership. She has a servant's heart and has been a part of almost every project we have worked on through those years. She loves the youth lane, giving much time to helping Interact Clubs and being an "all-in" RYLA-arian every year! Her energy for all things Rotary is amazing and she is excited and well-prepared to lead the club to accomplish great things this year.
Join us for the meeting on July 1 (using Zoom) when she will be installed as 2020-21 Rotary Club of Beaumont President by District Governor Becky Mason. While we will miss our traditional "Passing of the Gavel" by our past Presidents, we will enjoy hearing from President Cindy about her plans and challenges for us in the new year ahead.

Last year we began a new initiative to recruit members to serve at the head table for the weekly meeting electronically. It worked well so Mandy Clayton has decided to try the same procedure this year. She has prepared a signup and invites you to look at your calendar and select a date that is convenient for your schedule. Red Badges are strongly encouraged to volunteer for this opportunity so you can move closer to your blue badge and members can get to know you better too.

Oh, what a day! A great group of Rotarians were ready to serve on the Summer Reading project for Martin Elementary children.
Though restrictions had to be in place, the volunteers gathered in "social distancing" fashion and wearing "fashionable" face masks, and went to work on this major project. Rotarians labeled 920 books with the names of all the third grade students, boxed and sealed them for mailing, and they went straight to the Post Office to be delivered to the children this week.
A job well-done! Thank you to Cheryl Bilyeu, Cindy Cherry, Tony Clark, Josh Davis, Deborah Drago, John Lee, Lynn Hill and Kaitlyn, Floyd McSpadden, Gary Moncla, Sheree Pierce, Terri Potter, Shannah Quinn, John Rollins, Tim Sudela, and Uliana Trylowsky. Jennifer Gregory and Debbie Maxwell get credit for coming as well. Big thank you goes to Gary Moncla for arriving early to help to prepare for the workday and to Tim Sudela for his always masterful photography.

The majority of the dues invoices were sent by email and more will be sent this week. The invoices say payment is due July 1.
You will notice on your invoice that there will be a partial credit applied to the Room Assessment fee. The Board of Directors voted to refund this fee, which amounts to about $1 per week, for the weeks that we have been unable to meet at the Elegante.
Those with credit cards on file will be charged before July 1. Please phone if you have received an updated card or would like to make a change in the card on file.
Those who have submitted information on where your invoice should be emailed or mailed should expect that to be done this week.

President Joe Domino opened his final meeting of the Rotary year with a big smile on his face, not only because this was his final meeting, but because he anticipated the opportunity he was about to have recognizing the achievements of the club and a number of individuals who contributed to the successful accomplishments of the year. No one can quarrel with his saying this has been the most unusual year in anyone's recent memory! A flood, a relocation, an explosion in a nearby city, and - capping it off - just a world pandemic! It will be hard to find anyone who can look back on 2019-20 as a year of great memories, but we can reflect, with pride, that the club still accomplished good things and served our community in ways we never would have planned to do had all those events of the year not happened.
After opening the meeting, President Joe called on Mellie Bevilacqua, Membership Recruitment Chair, to report on the team challenge of 2019-20. She announced a TIE between Deborah Drago's and Stephanie Shoemaker's teams. They are going to enjoy a little delayed gratification for their achievement as the original "prize" of a pizza and bowling night for the winning team really cannot happen during this time of COVID distancing.
Joe awarded Perfect Attendance achievement honors to those who earned it this year.

Joe also announced his selection for "Rookie of the Year" which goes to a new member for exceptional service - Kevin Reed.
Michael Perez, Chair, presented the "Spirit of Rotary" award to Sheree Pierce.
Incoming President Cindy Cherry presented the District 5910 honor called Roll of Fame to Tim Sudela.
And, lastly, Joe presented several Paul Harris Fellow awards to some Rotarians who he felt had been especially important to the success of the year.

The last meeting of the Rotary year has traditionally been one for celebrating and toasting the outgoing President of the Club and this year was no exception. While the "facts" of the story were a bit less than factual, the entertainers took a little liberty with the facts and provided the meeting attendees with some stories about Joe Domino's life - from his youthful days in Louisiana including Catholic schooling, through his career with Gulf States Utilities and Entergy.
With Cindy Cherry narrating, the constraints of Zoom did not at all hinder the performances of the foursome who donned wigs, headpieces and costumes and became characters from Joe's life (sort of if you let your imagination really go wild!) The best thing you can do is to watch and enjoy it!
