T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics

The T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics is presented annually to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary Four-Way Test in his or her chosen vocation.

The original criteria for the award explains:

Nominees must be a member in good standing of the Rotary Club of Beaumont.
Nominees will have exhibited high ethical standards in their chosen vocation arising from a specific incident or by their consistent actions over a period of time.

First presented in 1996, the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics has annually recognized some of the Club's outstanding members. In 2020, this prestigious honor was presented to Rebekah Maxwell.

Nominator Craig Escamilla presented the T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. Award for Business Ethics to 2020 recipient Rebekah Maxwell.

An annual tradition since 1996, the Award is named in honor of the late T. Kelsey Lamb, Sr. who served as 1942-43 President of our club and as 1951-52 District Governor. It is presented to a Beaumont Rotarian who consistently exhibits the highest ethical standards represented by the Rotary 4-Way Test in his or her chosen profession.

"The Enormous BLADE Project"

The Blade (Beaumont Light Atmospheric Distillation Expansion) SR Project at ExxonMobil began in 2019. Gene and Ben presented the club with a reconnection of the project and its accomplishments and challenges so far.

The new crude unit is within the current footprint of the refinery. When completed, it will increase the capacity of the plant by more than 65% of diesel export capabilities. This will enhance the Beaumont refinery’s position as a leader in the US and the largest plant in North America.

So far, the majority of the equipment and structure have been delivered from the Neches via the Port of Beaumont and offloaded to the site. One of the major challenges was to be able to get workers to the work site without overburdening the entry into the refinery. The land had to be elevated before any part of the foundation was started.

The project received global awards that recognized ExxonMobil as the recipient of SSHE Award Winning Project for safety and engineering. Many industry awards were received as well.

The equipment logistics were made possible with the partnership of the Port of Beaumont. Equipment could be offloaded safely and transported to the site. In May of 2019, the corporation began receiving equipment from vessels from all over the world. The sheriff’s office offered assistance in the project as well. In August a lot of equipment was on site. There were delays due to Hurricanes Laura and Marco.

In September a Fractionator Offbed was received from ship to barge on the 8th, an APS Fractionator was delivered to the site on the 10th and on the 14th a Hydrotreater Reactor was received. These pieces of equipment were large beyond imagination as viewed by video. A Furnace was delivered in November and on January 3, 2021, an APS Tower Lift arrived. Maneuvering this equipment into place by lifting it was a sight to see. The next delivery is scheduled for February 25th at the Port. These will be modules to be put into place. Over 3,000 truckloads have been received. This equipment is coming from around the world as this has truly been an international project.

The scale of the Project is huge and should increase efficiency in processing crude to diesel in the future. Supplies to do this will be received via pipeline as well as storage tanks. The Blade Project is important to our area. Updates on the project can be viewed online or on Facebook.
