The March Rotary After Hours evening was held in conjunction with the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce as a Mix-and-Mingle that the organization hosts regularly. It was held at the Beaumont Rotary Centennial Playground.
What a fun evening! The weather was pleasant with clear skies and cool temperatures and the large crowd thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship together. The Playground was a showplace for the group and the evening was a rich opportunity to "build goodwill and better friendships."
Thank you to Rob Glassey and Michael Perez for making the arrangements and underwriting the event and refreshments. Thank you also to the Salvation Army for allowing the use of the mobile unit that provided a place from which to serve.
There are a good number of photos posted on the website and Facebook.
As host club, we hope to have good representation. Please register to attend some or all of the Conference.
General schedule:
Friday, May 1 - Pre-Conference activities and tours will start at 1:00 p.m. Sign up for the "Shoot Down Polio!" Clay Shoot with proceeds to benefit the End Polio effort, or tours of local museums and attractions. We flip the switch for the official conference opening at the Beaumont Rotary Centennial Playground; then at dinner in the adjacent Beaumont Event Centre the spotlight will shine on district clubs for the Governor's Spotlight Awards.
Saturday, May 2 - The day will be full of presentations and collaborations about the good work being done across the District. There will be time to exchange ideas and share new plans. In the evening, the spotlight will focus on the District leadership at the traditional Governor's Dinner. We have some "top brass" showing up for the "top brass!" (Click on the attachment below for a sneak preview.) You don't want to miss this!
Sunday, May 3 - The spotlight will turn this morning to light up the great work being done by Rotarians collectively through the Rotary Foundation. You will be moved, motivated, and inspired. Plan to be here until around 11:00 a.m. when the lights will go dim on the 2015 Conference, but participants take the glow back to their respective clubs to continue to "Light Up Rotary!" across District 5910.
The 2015 District 5910 Conference is fast approaching and the committee in your Rotary club is working hard to insure that this event is as grand as it can be!
To put on such an event in the style that our Club does, with amazing food, fun and entertainment, we are asking for your assistance with financial support. We have designed various sponsorship packages which will, in turn, benefit your business with advertising to several local clubs in our area and those in other parts of the district as well. Look at the map below and you can easily see the large area and number of clubs in District 5910.
We believe the “Spotlight on District 5910" conference will be a huge success and we want you to be a part. Please consider becoming a sponsor by choosing one of the packages and become a sponsor to help us "Light Up Rotary" and District 5910 even brighter!
Phone me for more details or send your financial support along with your business logo to the Rotary office.
Are you going to be a part of club leadership in 2015-16? Attend the District Assembly!
Open to all Rotarians, the District Assembly is designed to give clubs and their respective leadership teams a jump-start on the upcoming Rotary year. There are multiple break-out sections, so clubs are encouraged to send as many members as possible to ensure that your club has the information and training to make the 2015-16 Rotary year successful. Read through the schedule by linking to it here.
Plan to attend Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Montgomery, Texas.
Visit the District webpage and link to the registration through the event link/date. If you need assistance with registration or more information, contact the Rotary Office. We can arrange carpooling for Rotarians attending.
Special thanks to Larry Beaulieu for providing some great photos and video taken with a drone recently. It is really great to see and watch live action of the playground in full use. If you look closely, there are children on every piece of equipment, a birthday party with balloons, and fun going on all over. Most will be posted on the Facebook page soon so watch for them.
Beaumont orthopedic surgeon Dr. David D. Teuscher became president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Its board of directors voted Teuscher to the position at its annual meeting in Las Vegas.

With a new book and special hats, Rotarians eagerly headed to school again! It was the traditional Rotary Goes to School day but the new Dr. Seuss book - and look - had everyone excited.
From Legacy Christian, Angela Baker wrote:
"I had such a good time with the 23 first graders at Legacy. They were well-behaved and all avid readers. They laughed at the silliness of the Dr. Seuss book and even reminded me that I had skipped a page. They had celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with Green Eggs and Ham….which several did not like.:) It was a fun time, even with the silly hat on my head."
From Fehl-Price:
"The students thoroughly enjoyed having the book read to them and receiving their book (There's a Wocket in my Pocket!). It is always special when our community leaders are able to spend some special time with us."
Mrs. Belinda Taylor
Fehl-Price Elementary
Curriculum Coordinator
From Jim Fuller:
"I enjoyed reading the Dr. Seuss book. The kids were very excited. Upon receiving the books, one little boy said, 'Oh, I had hoped this was the book we would get!'”
Although the former personalized book we handed out was special, I think this one will be used much more and remain a lot of fun for the children and their families."
And from Cynthia Wolf:
"Reading time at Sallie Curtis Elementary was a treat for not only the students but also the following Rotary volunteers and special friends of Rotarians: Travis Brewer, Joe Fisher, Kristi and Euric Fuselier, Linda Gillespie, Gary Hidalgo, Karen Newton, Susan and Russ Schultz, Ann Scoggin, and Cynthia and Michael Wolf. And most of us had a Curtis connection, as we had either taught there and/or had children and/or grandchildren who attend and/or attended there. But for some, it was their first time at Sallie Curtis.
All of us on Rotary Team Sallie Curtis were welcomed in the Front Office by Principal Brian East. In fact, he accompanied all “Cat in the Hat” volunteers to the first grade classrooms of Ms. DuBose, Ms. Glaze and Ms. Huckaby. And prior to our reading time, he accompanied several of us through the cafeteria to meet and greet the excited first graders.
Then, in the classrooms, we witnessed the joy of the first graders at Curtis as our “Cat in the Hat” Rotarians read while the children followed along and then were excited to share their favorite Dr. Seuss character and rhyming words in their very own books!
Rotarians made a difference at Sallie Curtis, and we learned that the motto of Sallie Curtis is just that: 'Making a Difference!'”
