The Walk to End Alzheimer's is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® ; now the Alzheimer's Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer's.

While there is no fee to register for Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

You can find more information and resources for Alzheimer's and other forms of Dementia at www.alz.org.

PROGRAM REVIEW
September 17, 2025

Belinda George
Director, Spindletop Boomtown Museum
Program Review: Sheree Pierce

President Uliana Trylowsky opened the September 17, 2025, Rotary Club of Beaumont meeting with the ringing of the bell and introduction of those serving at the head table.

The meeting featured an invocation by Chris Ayers, pledges led by Harley Swearingen, and introduction of guests by Jackie Gunner, including Dr. Belinda George, who would later speak about about her work at the Spindletop Boomtown Museum.

The club welcomed three new members: Seth Crone, Michael Kiefer, and Jason Marshburn.

Acknowledgement and thank-yous were announced for those putting out flags for Patriot Day and those who participated in the bed build day at Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The goal of 100 beds was surpassed with 116 beds being buit.

The upcoming Wine Down with Rotary event has raised $16,000 in sponsorships but needs more ticket sales and raffle basket contributions.

Dr. Belinda George delivered her presentation on Southeast Texas history while engaging the audience through an interactive bingo activity with prizes including museum merchandise.

She led a detailed tour of the Spindletop Boomtown Museum, highlighting key exhibits and historical facts about the 1901 oil boom in Beaumont. She discussed the significance of the Lucas Gusher, which produced 100,000 barrels of oil daily for nine days, and explained how the event transformed Beaumont into a boomtown and laid the foundation for the global energy industry.

Dr. George also mentioned upcoming events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Spindletop and the 50th anniversary of Boomtown on January 16th, with assistance from the city.

Details were shared about the upcoming Big Red's Roundup rodeo event at Spindletop Boomtown, including activities like mutton bustin', games for kids, and a Lamar University intramural rodeo team debut. She encouraged attendees to purchase tickets, participate in guided tours by calling ahead, and visit the gift shop for unique items.
