It will soon be that time - when you hear that ding-a-linging at the doorway of nearly every business in town. Every year, nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army in the form of meals, shelter, after-school programs, job referrals, youth shelter intervention programs, rehabilitation services, and more.
The gifts you help collect through the Red Kettle will enable these local Salvation Army programs and services to continue providing help and hope to those in need.
For a number of years, the Rotary Club of Beaumont has been one of the many organizations that tend a booth at Parkdale Mall and participate in the collection process. It is a demonstration of "Service Above Self." Shannon Williamson is our Chair and asks you to sign up in advance for the hour(s) you can help on Saturday, December 6.
We need you! There are still several hours without a volunteer to help, Please go to the online sign-up or add your name to the paper list at the next meeting. Thank you for helping.
Wondering what to give a friend or neighbor at this gift-giving time of the year? A subscription to "Show Your Colors" flag project is a perfect fit, and it will be enjoyed year-round!
Call the Rotary Office and we will help you with all the arrangements to get a subscription set up for 2015 delivery.
The Layette Committee wants to expand the project to include a specially made bag for a mother and her baby in Nicaragua that will be a "gift" from you to honor or recognize a friend or relative.
Your $50 donation to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation will underwrite a layette bag that will provide what is needed for healthy, loving care of an infant.
Please give your gift (checks payable to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation) and pick up a card you can give to the person you honor with your generous gift. If you prefer, you can pay online with your credit card by using the "Layette Bag" button on the bottom of our donation page (click here to access).
For questions, phone Bel Lamb or the Rotary Office.
President Vernon Pierce was proud to welcome three new members to the Club at the meeting on November 19.
Jay Wilson is Multi-Media Consultant with the Beaumont Enterprise. He visited several weeks and already feels at home at Rotary. His sponsor, Craig Lively, (pictured in the background) proudly introduced him from the podium.
Michele Cobb, DC, is owner and chiropractor of Cobb Family Chiropractic. Michele was a Rotarian in the Sugar Land club before moving to Beaumont and is eager to get back into Rotary service. She is joined by her sponsor, David Heinz, along with President Vernon Pierce.
Scot Babineaux is not new to Rotary after years of membership in two other clubs. With a move of Scot Babineaux Insurance to the Beaumont area, he is eager to get involved with this Club. His sponsor, Vernon Pierce, welcomed him.
It seems like only yesterday that she joined the club and was given her red badge so the special song written for Bridget Johnson was appropriately to the Beatles' tune "Yesterday"!
Bridget was presented with her Bachelor of Rotary Science degree and Blue Badge by President Vernon Pierce while her stand-in sponsor, Paul Szuch for Connie Szuch, looked on. Congratulations, Bridget!
In case you are not aware, even long-time Rotarians can earn advanced degrees. Is a Master or Ph.D. in Rotary Science in your future?
The Thanksgiving holiday came early to some offices and businesses, keeping Rotarians from the meeting. Let's turn the downturn back to an upswing! Come to Rotary and bring a friend.
Mark your weekly calendar with a standing appointment of "Rotary meeting" on Wednesday and come enjoy lunch, fellowship and hear a great program!
Ask any student who has lived in another country for an entire school year, or ask any family that has hosted an international student for a few months about their experience. Without exception, they will describe it as life-changing and thoroughly enjoyable.
Our club is hosting a young lady, Catharina, a 16-year-old from Brazil this year. She is currently residing with Rotarian Rene Greenwald and his wife, Liliana, and is a delightful young lady. She has settled in well and is learning the language and American culture well.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, she will soon be transitioning to the home of Robert Hickman and his wife. It is now time for us to focus on finding a 3rd host family who will host her from around March to the time she returns home in June.
Do you know anyone who would be willing to open up their home to our visiting student? Would you consider doing so yourself? Catharina is a delightful young lady and would be wonderful addition to a household. Please consider this wonderful opportunity for you and your family or suggest it to someone you know. The host families do not need to include a Rotarian to serve as a host.
Do you know of a young lady entering the Neches River Festival as a princess in 2015? If your daughter or granddaughter is planning to take part in the festivities and needs a sponsoring club or organization, please submit her name by calling the Rotary Office.
We send wishes for a quick recovery to our friends and fellow Rotarians who have recently been ill. We hope you are better soon!

Good news this week on Tolbert Chisum. He was the "masked man" at Rotary this week as his doctor is allowing some public appearances so long as he wears his face mask. He could not wait to return to Rotary!
Please let us know of others who should be included in our weekly good wishes article.
The new invoicing process by Rotary International guarantees we will be assessed dues for anyone on the membership roles on January 1, without exception or adjustment. Therefore, the Board of Directors voted to take a more stringent stance on the Club's collections.
Invoices for January - June 2015 dues will be sent right away, and are due by December 31.
As the director of the play "Oliver!", Paula Bothe invited several actors/singers to visit Rotary. What a treat! They sang four songs from the play and were great.
Performed by Beaumont Community Players, "Oliver" is in production at the Betty Greenberg Center for the Performing Arts through December 6. Call for tickets now and don't miss out on seeing this terrific performance!
Sponsor ads appear on the website continuously and are included in the sidebar of the RotaryGrams each week. One will be spotlighted weekly to express our appreciation.
