Come hear and learn more from the expert from StormGeo (formerly ImpactWeather), our "hurricane guy", Chris Hebert. Chris always has an informative presentation with his forecast of what we can expect. Rotarians leave the meeting with the "inside track" on the upcoming Hurricane season.
It’s been nearly 10 years since the last major hurricane struck the U.S., which is the longest period in recorded history. Will our lucky streak end in 2015? There are indications that the Gulf of Mexico will be more active this year than it was last season. Hurricanes forming in the Gulf of Mexico generally provide little warning ahead of landfall.
In recognition of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Beaumont will recognize and honor individuals who exemplify a “service above self” attitude in their vocation on Wednesday, May 20. These coveted awards are given annually to community members who demonstrate exceptional service, honesty, and friendliness in performing their jobs.
The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, May 8 at 5:00 p.m. You can get a form at the meeting, download a copy from the website, or have one faxed to you. Contact Jane Burns at 838-1605 for more information.
The Spindletop Club will hold the annual Soapbox Derby and, as we have for 12 years, our club members will assist in a small way by serving breakfast and lunch to the workers at the event. Shannon Williamson, chairman of this fine "Pit Crew" is asking for your help on Saturday or Sunday - or both. Please sign up if you can assist either day.
Instead of a meeting on Wednesday, April 29, Rotarians were invited to attend the 2015 District Conference hosted by the Rotary Club of Beaumont. There were many opportunities to take part - from a Clay Shoot benefitting polio eradication efforts to the Governor's Banquet with outstanding entertainment by the Dallas Brass on Saturday night.
Many Rotarians from our club helped by serving on the main planning Committee, helping one of the sub-committee chairs with their assignment, attending and helping with an event, and more. Until we can gather a comprehensive list from sub-committee chairmen, please accept deep gratitude for making the event a huge success which was thoroughly enjoyed by the attendees.
Photos are being uploaded to the District webpage and Facebook pages. Please view and enjoy!
